Lord of War

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Nic Cage is an arms dealer. After trying to make that massive leap of disbelief, now picture he actually outsmarts another arms dealer, Ian Holm, who is inexcusably underused in this flick. You see the various ways he evades the feds, led by Ethan Hawke, on his tail. This film is full of characters that are either mentally retarded w\ an IQ of six or suffer from chronic long- and short-term memory loss on a daily basis. Nic Cage, his brother (Jared Leto), his wife (Bridget Moynahan) & pretty much everyone except Holm & Hawke play unsympathetic & idiotic folk. The climatic scene during the final minutes in Sierra Leone is laughable. The entire message of the movie seems to be, "Guns are bad and the major governments of the world move more guns than anyone." This message, of course, has all the power of a back-alley sermon by an escaped mental patient on the Book of Numbers where it talks about the Hebrews taking the census.

After seeing this movie, you'll want to buy a gun to shoot the director, screenwriters, producers (among them Chris Roberts of "Wing Commander" infamy), & most of the cast.

I agree with everything Malcolm said.

The ads for this film played it up like an action comedy, and it turns out to be a 90 minute ad against guns and war with very little humor.

Another one I skipped for years, but just watched.

It's the story of a dude, Nicholas Cage, who rises up through the ranks of being a private arms dealer.

I am not sure what I thought of it... it was interesting, but it didn't hit any particular theme particularly hard. I wasn't feeling much through it, anyway. Watch it or don't, doesn't really matter.

Also I think this was the first Nic Cage movie I ever saw where he doesn't make a crazy face.
