An Evening with Kevin Smith - At 'Dem Flicks with Malcolm

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Synopsis:
Kevin Smith needed some cash, so he agreed to have Q&A sessions at various colleges during '01-02.

Review:
Most of the questions are bullshit and uninteresting.

A few of the better ones...

1) A lesbian starts bitching about Chasing Amy. He destroys her without being a huge douche.

2) This is the first of what I'll call "Kevin Smith's True Hollywood Stories." Someone asks him about the time Jon Peters was producing the Superman script in the late '90s and he was involved in a rewrite. If you're unfamiliar with that particular piece of shit, it had everyone from Sean Penn to Nic Cage starring and was retooled fuck knows how many times by how many writers. Anyway, his tales of meeting with the movie execs and Peters especially are hilarious.

"You see Sean Penn's eyes? It's like the eyes of a violent killer animal that's barely contained. That's why I want him for the lead."

"You ... you ... that's what you want for the guy playing Superman?"

3) The second of the True Hollywood Stories ... Kevin Smith shot a documentary for Prince. He goes into what it was like working for him for a week and why the footage will never be seen. He also talks about a few conversations he had with Prince during the project. Fucking hilarious.

Verdict:
Just YouTube the best parts, unless you're a hardcore Smith fan. Jay Mewes did show up at least one of the talks, so there's some footage of him, and that's a plus.

Kevin Smith is touring the country again, doing this same shit. I caught him live the other night. 2.5 hours of Q&A, I think 5.5 questions got answered. Went on a 45-minute side conversation about this dude, who sounds like the reason Smith's finally doing Mallrats 2. Also said he's making a mini series about a hockey enforcer.

Forgot, he also said Bruce Willis is a bitch and a half to work with. Johnny Depp is apparently awesome.

Is he still talking about Bruce Willis? I saw one of his Q&As on Netflix a few years ago talking about that. Spent 90 minutes answering a single question.

He's extremely long winded. He admitted he was rather high, though. He apparently fucking hated working with him. Sets him as the poster boy for self-important prima donna actors.

Smith does still take shots at Bruce, and likes to point out when other Hollywood folks report the same issues.

I guess Bruce is awesome to work with when he wants to be there, and a complete cocksucker when he checks out.

Ask Sylvester Stallone who called him "greedy and lazy", and that's one of Bruce's closest friends and business partners!
