I'm actually a little surprised.

Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, was arrested at 5:40 p.m.

A young muslim male. What a surprise. Of course, it's vitally important that we grope all airline passengers, regardless of race, sex, age...

The hell with it. It's not even funny anymore.

The sad part is: this is the best the FBI can do? You just KNOW they found some idiot teenager on the internet and pumped him up to get him to do this. Probably had some pressure from above to bag a terrorist to keep us in line at the airport.
the public was never in danger, authorities said....[but]..."The threat was very real," said Arthur Balizan, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. "Our investigation shows that Mohamud was absolutely committed to carrying out an attack on a very grand scale,"

Yeah, except that's really bullshit, isn't it? He couldn't blow up a birthday balloon by himself if he tried.

Even my wife doesn't understand why we can't profile people.

If you want to stop terrorist, you profile the most likely terrorists. If you just want to control people, you treat everone the same - like possible terrorists.

The bomb was an elaborate fake supplied by the agents and the public was never in danger, authorities said.

Wait, they arrested a dude who had no chance of actually harming anyone with his "bomb?" They devoted resources to stopping a dude that never actually had a real chance of hurting anyone? Brilliant. If only we could stop everyone with pretend explosives.

Like I said: they're probably getting pressure to distract people from this airport stuff.

And I hate sounding like those cranks who think Bush blew up the WTC. But dang.

Basically it sounds like they may have peer-pressured the guy into doing this.

That's what my defense argument would be.

He still needs to fry, though, if he was actually trying to blow up a chistmas tree lighting.
