Critical mass of stupidity

Lately I've been pondering how much society/laws/acceptable behavior is based on a critical mass of stupid people believing a dumb thing. I mentioned it with the "I refuse to accept the definition of a word changing because so many people were using it wrong" "deep thought."
Another example of this is the "Perception is reality" thing that I first heard in the 90s.
X: "I believe that you are rude because you told me a thing and didn't suck my dick at the same time."
Y: "No, I corrected you on a thing that was true, and you were completely, provably incorrect."
X: "Well it's my perception that you're rude, and therefore wrong, so that's my reality."
Y: "Well I perceive that you're an idiot, and probably shouldn't be working here, and that's my reality."
X: "Well.... your reality doesn't count, only mine does."
And then HR will agree with the idiot.
Critical mass of idiots make idiocy the norm.
