Assaults are tough to get used, especially in the beginning before you can get any skills leveled up. I find it hard to believe that you can't do damage with 6LLs but if your positioning is bad in an assault your fucked. That build is definitely going to be one that you stay in the back with.

I think you also bought the -5M if I remember correctly, well that one has the SRM6 quirks and maybe you could try something like this build STK-5M. Its more in your face and with 73 firepower and 8dps you should have no problem dealing some damage.

So far I am not really digging this Stalker.

Replace Stalker with Atlas and I said the same thing.

He's not lying. You would think that Assaults would be simple to play with the tons of armor and weapons, but they're the hardest. They're fucking SLOW and everybody sees you so you're a massive, slow moving target.

For the Atlas, all of my builds are basically brawlers, so I get to move to the front lines. The biggest mistake I was making early on was how tanky it was and how hard I could hit. I'd overheat and die pretty quickly. Now I've got them all mastered, and even put some XP/money into cooldowns on my Boar's Head. It works much better. I also found that I had my armor all fucked up. The Atlas is supposed to be the wall at the front, so armor in the back can be really low. Moving armor around helped me last longer in fights.

For you, most of the Stalkers I see are missile boats or long range snipers. You rarely ever see them at the front lines. However, Stranger posted that brawler build, so WTF do I know about Stalkers. I think I'd research more variants and find the missile boats though since that seems to be your wheelhouse.

I just posted those builds that take advantage of the quirks that those particular mechs are receiving. I'll agree that you don't usually see many Stalkers up front brawling, but that -5M would have no problem doing that. Of course these are only suggestions, builds that I think will work for me get changed all the time. If Gordo likes ballistics then the Stalker isn't the chassis for that, only the hero Misery has one of those hardpoints. I'm sure he can find something that works, and I know for a fact that Stalkers are tanky, I have ran into many many of those fuckers and unloaded so much damage onto them only to lose that standoff.

Ok, with all of the long range weapons that would seem obvious, but I guess my brain was frazzled from doing that challenge all weekend and it didn't occur to me to not be on the front lines. I just played a match where I stayed back and sniped and did well. So ok.

Also, when I fire all 6 lasers at one my heat spikes to 80%. Yowza.

++++

How do you look up what achievements you have gotten, and the description of each?

Never mind, there it is. I thought it would be on my webpage profile for some reason.

Ha, I wanted to know what the "Seriously?!" achievement was that I got recently...

Get top damage in a game and zero kills. I got it during this weekend's Challenge o' th' Kill Stealers, of course.

Did you see the reward achievement for getting like 1,000,000 loyalty points to a Faction House is 50,000,000 c-bills?

Well now. This is an entirely different game when you just stay at the fringes and long-range snipe people. I should have figured this out before I had a 12:1 win rate during that challenge.

So now that Gordon is playing, are we ready to quit it?

I didn't even realize you played.

Well, I don't. But I did install it way back when, and I have an account.

An event that actually promotes teamwork. Hmm.. Go figure.
Okay MechWarriors, it's time to cash in. For the rest of January every match in MWO is a chance to earn reward MC.

Players will earn 20 MC per match when they score 130 points or above under the formula below. The maximum a player can earn during this event is 2000 MC.

Match Points = (Kills × 10) + (Kill Assist × 20) + ((Damage Done - Team Damage) ÷ 15)

The reward MC will be injected into your account after the event ends.

So if my math is correct then:

if you get 7 assists you gets 140 pts and thus qualify
or
1 kill + 6 assists will get you 130points
or
1 kill + 5 assists + 300 damage would also get you 130 points

Team damage= friendly fire, so it punishes those that shoot carelessly.

That's...................

interesting.

I think it may be *slightly* easier than the last challenge. I don't do a lot of FF as far as I know.

At least you don't have to worry about getting the kills. Kills actually get you less points than an assist, but someone needs to get the kills for the better of the team. Which shouldn't be to hard, people still wanna get that kill shot in.

So this promotes getting a tag on everyone and doing lots of damage and killing the other team while not shooting your own. Plus, you can still qualify even if you still do lose. I like it a lot, but I can smell a lot of incoming LRMs for the next few days.

So basically.... a team full of lights that just run around sweeping everyone with their lasers, then kind of hanging back not wanting to get the last hit.

Possibly, but that doesn't help anyone out if no one gets any kills. It seems to me that during the course of a normal winning match that getting 5-7 assists and 1-2 kills is just about the norm and that would be good enough to qualify. I don't think people are going to go to the extreme of not getting kills to the point that no kills will happen.

Speaking of that, I got the philanthropist achievement last night.

Gordo is my witness.
