I'm gonna try other methods.
Although, in high school I lost 10 pounds in a month by having mono that lasted forever.
And in Mexico I lost a bunch of weight by having constant diarrhea.
How did it come back again? And do you have to have tonsils to get strep?

So I've been hitting the gym at the YMCA 3 times a week when I take the MIL to old-lady-water-aerobics. They have a decent gym, a circuit of nautilus-type machines, free weights in the middle, and a running track surrounding it all. I never have a spotter and still have dodgy nerves in my hands due to my old nerve disease, so I just stick to the machines.... and I don't even do my own system any more. I just start at the beginning and go in a circle... no thought required... and I figured out that they are actually arranged intelligently, you work one muscle group, then the next machine hits another muscle group to let the first one rest, and the next machine hits that first muscle group again... etc. And at the end is legs.
Anyway, I don't want to carry a fucking notebook even though I'd like to keep track of my weight and reps and sets... but I thought of a 21st century solution that someone needs to do:
A set of machines with either Bluetooth functionality, or a fucking USB port. Bluetooth if you can make it sensitive enough to recognize your smart phone between that machine and the one 3 feet away next to it. But a thumb drive with software on it, you plug it in to the machine you are on, it tells you the last weight/reps/set you did, and records what you did this time. Later you can plug it in to your PC and get graphs and stats and stuff. Upload your data to their website and it'll tell you, depending on if your goal is weight loss, strength training, or bulking up, what you should be doing next... and if you want it tells the app on your thumb drive and you can have the machine tell you what you should be doing to achieve your goal.
Anyway, yeah, someone invent that and give my my 10% invention fee.

I actually own a fitbit with the HR monitor that I no longer use. I've found that it's FAR superior to the iWatch at tracking your exercise and heart rate. It's like new. I'd be willing to part with it for the right price...
And if you're looking for something to track specific exercises, use your smart phone. You're probably using it to listen to music while you work out (or not). It'd be easy to use the voice recorder to note what exercise, the reps, and weight after each, then you could go home and stick it into a spreadsheet.

A fitbit knows the difference between a shoulder press and bench press and seated row?
No idea, but if not it certainly should. With motion sensors the way they are these days and a smart phone to pair up with, a well-written app would be able to see you are at the gym (via GPS) and from the nature of the motions you are making be able to tell what sort of exercise you are doing. Otherwise back to the drawing board with it.

You are correct about what they should be able to do, but sadly, it's back to the drawing board.TPRJones wrote:No idea, but if not it certainly should. Motion-wise, there is no difference between a seated bench press and a seated row. Plus, the fitbit doesn't know how much weight is on the stack. You would pretty much need the machine telling you this stuff, via somehow. Now if the machine can communicate to the fitbit, great.
