Well, OSU is routinely at the top, so anything less than beating TTUN and getting into the CFP is disappointing. It's not the top rivalry in college football for nothing.
Lots of questions about Day in Columbus now. He's getting shredded by all comers. Rightfully so too. They simply weren't prepared, and honestly, haven't been for a lot of games this year. He kind of has been getting by thanks to talent on the field. His play calling has been suspect for the past two years. For example, if I see another WR screen it'll be too soon. He seems to not know how to attack the middle of the field. He also dialed up terrible plays on big downs like the sweep on third and 2 in the 3rd quarter. He has the nation's best WR, but couldn't get him involved in the game except for one play? I hate that Day is failing because he's genuinely an exceptional person. He handles the off the field stuff better than anyone else in the country, like the mental health issue. Not sure how they fix this issue. Maybe bring Urban back as a consultant to Day to help him better prepare for games? Or do what TTUN did and bring in younger, hungry coordinators to give the program a kick start? If I was a betting man I would wager this is the route they go. OSU's AD won't sit back and take this loss without looking at changing something and everything else has been changed except HC and OC. The HC is calling the plays right now and shouldn't be. The OC is an old Kevin Wilson. I think he's the one that takes the fall.
I'll give Knowles a pass because he just arrived and looking at that secondary, he didn't have a lot to work with. If we had two corners that could play man we win that game easily. Unfortunately, we don't and they gave up the big passes. Later, when Knowles backed out of the box to help them, TTUN was able to finally run. Just a lack of talent on that side of the ball.
