OSU opened as a 17 point favorite over Sparty today. The line is already up to 20 1/2 - 21 1/2. Holy shit!

That means the "smart money" (professional gamblers) thought 17 was WAY too low and absolutely hammered bets on the Buckeyes to cover.

I know I doubled my bet Saturday with them only laying 17 to Nebraska.

Sparty just isn't that good this year. I would like a chart of where Sparty has started and ended each of the past 5 years in rankings, cuz it always feels like it goes one way: down.

OSU's looking strong, too bad they're in such a cream puff conference. Maybe they could relocate to Tennessee and join the SEC?

Winston led the Buccaneers to a stunning 55-40 victory in Los Angeles, handing the Rams their first loss of the season. He threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns with one interception, and in his past three games he has completed 65% of his passes with eight touchdowns and only two picks.

Fair point.

Let's see how the SEC looks at the end of the year, like every other year where all their "great teams" shit the bed. Must be nice to be in a conference where you get ranked just to pad the SOS for another team.

If I wanted to end his career, just to be right, I'd add him to my fantasy team.

lol

Maybe that's my problem. I'm in a keeper league, and drafted both Jones + Hasksins, so all of my bad luck concentrated on Haskins.

Fair point.
2015: 5th to 3rd
2016: 12th to unranked (ended 3-9)
2017: Unranked to 17th
2018: 11th to unranked (ended 7-6)
2019: 18th to 25th (season ongoing)

So they basically stayed the same one year, improved one year, and dropped off the face of the Earth two years.

UNC regrets allowing thin-skinned Clemson fans who can't take a joke "taunting" of Clemson fans
North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham said he regrets that the Tar Heels ridiculed Clemson fans on the video board during the Tigers' 21-20 victory at Kenan Stadium on Saturday.

During a timeout, a handful of Clemson fans were shown on the video board with overlaying comments suggesting they were bandwagon fans.

Among the digs: "Thinks That Clemson Is in Georgia," "Can't Name Clemson's Last Head Coach," "Also a Patriots Fan" and "Thinks 'The Fridge' Is Just a Kitchen Appliance."
Wow, so harsh. /s

Saw that story and thought it was hilarious.

Fuck apologizing for some light humor. Seriously, fuck this entire society if we need to apologize for harmless stuff like this.

Gene Smith (OSU's AD) comes out against the Fair Pay to Play Act and is a key member of the team trying to find solutions.
Smith acknowledged that Ohio State, which has an enormous alumni base and abundant resources, would have an "unbelievable competitive advantage" over a lot of other schools from a system like this, but he is still against it.

He equated it to an Ohio State player being able to use an app to reach out to the 550,000-plus OSU alums and be paid for a personalized shout-out.

"That's the world we'd be living in," Smith said. "I don't want that. How do we regulate that?"
He's not wrong.

I believe the kids should make ALL the money for their names and likenesses. However, it should be through deals with the schools so there is regulation and the playing field is level.

One of the areas where the CA law goes wrong is in allowing players to sign with agents. You're basically setting kids up to be preyed upon at that point.

So, for example:
1. All conferences and schools sign deals with EA for college football/basketball games. Every player gets accurately portrayed (faces, skin tone, body size, etc.) and is paid a licensing fee per copy sold for participating.

1a. Additionally, the game is given different packaging for different regions (states? conferences?). This will help spread out the number of cover athletes who could/should earn a bonus. However, to prevent things like OSU, Bama, ND, Clemson, Texas, etc. dominating the covers, perhaps the covers can simply be the major conferences' logo in that region? This would prevent an unfair recruiting advantage. OSU wouldn't be able to tell recruits "One of our players gets the EA cover every year."

2. All jersey sales should be split between the school and the player whose jersey gets sold. The lion's share should still go to the school for all the overhead and licensing, but the player should see a fair amount of the sale.

2a. Posters and other products that use names and likenesses can be dealt with the same way.

3. Players should still be unable to sign with an agent until they declare for the draft.

I want to bitch slap the governor of CA for this bill so much, and all the selfish ignorant players on Lebron's show where it was signed into law. So fucking short sighted. This has the potential to absolutely devastate college athletics OUTSIDE of football and basketball because colleges will no longer be able to support them. Additionally, it now pays to have a big alumni base. I hope you like Big Ten football...

The Toledo Blade's sports editor was a known UM fan, and thus, UM always got the lion's share of coverage and never a bad word.

I guess he's gone because this guy rips UM on their bullshit.

Nice to see a journalist/reporter actually doing investigative research. He should go teach this to the people that cover politics.

UMich is definitely a more academically well-regarded school than OSU, but it's not like we're comparing UofM and WMU or CMU. That being said, I'd find it hard to believe that both schools don't use lower standards for athletes. OSU certainly seems to based on that article. Also, UofM is not Stanford or Duke, in any way.

The guy points all of that out. Although OSU's academic standards are tougher than I thought. They actually release their records and their football players, while 6 points lower on ACT scores than other OSU freshmen, were 3 points higher than the national average.

The whole article is basically pouring water on UM's claims of "our guys can play at Bama, but also get accepted to the Ivy League".

Most other schools don't make that claim.

I didn't even notice, but Rutgers fired their coach, so brighter days are on the horizon. Hah.
As part of his buyout, Rutgers will owe Ash approximately $8.47 million. That total includes the remainder of his $2.3 million salary this year and the $7.5 million he’s owed through the 2022 season.
...
Ash – who had an 8-32 record overall and a 3-26 mark in the Big Ten -- was fired in a meeting with Hobbs on Sunday afternoon.
I would be cheaper and still get similar results...
