Diet....contest?
OK... I also bet someone in my office, 20%, $100.
The rules are:
We each have until a certain date. At that time, the winner gets the pro-rated amount of the $100 based on weight loss.
Examples:
1) Both people lose 20% by date, no one wins $.
2) One person loses 20%, other loses 15%. Since the goal was 20%, each 1% = $5 (100/20). So the difference (20-15) * 5 = 25.
My current bet is for 5/30 (so plenty of time for next summer + ability to slack for a holiday/birthday if you wanted).

Good bet. I was shooting for the same time frame (right before Memorial Day weekend).

I am interested in getting a bet on, but I don't know if $100 will motive me. I might have to put more on the line.
Actually you could weigh yourself naked if you want. It's not like we're streaming the weigh in live. Plus, we're on the honor system, so it'll just be a more honest result for yourself.
By the way, I'm looking at around 15% as a goal. So instead of percentages, should be just put the bet on hitting your goal weight?

I figured percentages would be fairer since it means losing the same relative amount, like Biggest Loser.
But if you only want to lose 15, and I want to lose 20, then clearly I have more to lose. I'm not sure what would be "fair" to each other in that regard.
And I just got back from the state fair, so I probably need to lose more now

Back on this February. I am dieting all month... because it is the shortest month, of course.
I am calling it POUND A DAY FEBRUAR-AY. See, it rhymes.
Also I am stopping Feb 28 and eating on the 29th because that Leap Year day is bullshit.
Yes, goal is a pound a day. Will be difficult on the 4th when there is going to be a really good dinner with an open bar.

I'm trying leangains. This is a kind of "cycling" diet, with carb re-feeds on lift days.
I tell ya, it's HARD for me to eat even 100g of carbs in a given day.

- Intermittent fasting: 16 hour fast, 8 hour feeding window (I just skip breakfast)
- eat a lot of protein
- heavy compound lifts (like Big Five: squat, deadlift, bench, pullups, etc), 3 days a week
- +20% maintenance calories on workout days, -20% maintenance on non-workout days.

Eating +20% maintenance calories is also a challenge sometimes, believe it or not.

Well, I'm definitely not in good enough shape for the LeanGains thing.
So I'm trying the 100 push-ups workout, and cutting calories to 1800 with some light cardio, and cutting out sugar. Trying for 1/3 of cals from carbs/protein/fat each. Not doing more til I see the dr (yay rheumatoid arthritis)
Did 19 push-ups on the test day.

I don't really see how this is possible without losing significant amounts of lean mass. Are you using body fat measurements as well to check?GORDON wrote:Back on this February. I am dieting all month... because it is the shortest month, of course.

I'm doing well on the 33/33/33 ratio I've been using for food. Sugar cravings have been minimal, food cravings have been minimal. Hardest time for me is right around 5pm (get home from work, not yet dinner time, used to have a small bit of candy to tide me over).
Lost 5 pounds so far, I assume primarily the "emptying out" since my start weight was on a day I ate way too much and also decreased carbs/sugar/water retention.
Only 46 more to go.
It's not me, it's someone else.
10 days in, 9 pounds lost, 42 to go (yeah, that doesn't mesh with the 46 to go above; Re-calibrated target).
The change of diet has been going fine. Food/sugar cravings are nearly gone. Although man, donuts still sound good. Have done 3 days of the 100 pushups program, up to about 50/day, today is day 4. Oh, and I bought a bike (Trek 7.2FX). It's a hybrid/road bike so in theory I could bike to work, etc (work is 5.5 miles from home) some day if I get fit enough.
And also cut out pizza and fried foods almost completely. Had a cold the past few days, but was able to stick to it. Exercise is currently about 1-2 miles of walking per days, plus the pushups and stationary bike a few times a week.
