I have a gaggle of nephews in the 9-11 range.
I said, "Do you want to see a HUGE hornet nest?"
Them: YEAH!
Me: Ok, but look... be very careful. They attacked me once. Whatever you do, DO NOT throw these apples from the apple tree at that hornet nest! I mean it!
Them: Immediate begin chucking apples at it.
Me: Vacate the area laughing.
They smacked it at least once and ran, a couple minutes later I went over and yeah, a bunch of pissed off hornets...

I've heard that spraying a paper nest like that with a soapy water solution will kill them.

Kudos to that guy. Me, I'd not want to get within a mile of that thing. It'd have just burned the forest down.
