White people aren't voting for Obama: racist
Minorities aren't voting for Romney: Well, duh, that's just following their interests

The "marriage gap" was also more important than gender in determining votes in 2012, according to the exit polls. Obama won voters who were not married by 20 percentage points. There was a gender gap here—Obama won 67 percent of unmarried women and 56 percent of unmarried men—but he won single women and men.

Romney won married voters of both genders. He won 53 percent of married women.

People didn't vote the facts, they voted in response to an organized propaganda campaign. It was brilliance in its simplicity: Lie while simultaneously accuse the other side of lying.

Were you just introduced to the American political system or something?

I recently stopped believing that people are basically good, and I am seeing things much more clearly, now.

If it helps at all, none of this is new nor in any way "worse than ever before" or other hyperbolic nonsense. Presidential politics has been a horrible mess ever since Jefferson accused Adams of being a hermaphrodite. And at least no one has been shot on the floor of Congress lately.

You say that like it is a bad thing.

Goddamn you for beating me to that punch.

Oh, no, I'm all in favor of Congressperson on Congressperson violence. But then I'm also in favor of all the rest of the horribleness they do to each other. Better to have it be openly obvious how awful they all are instead of encouraging them to hide it.

I guess I am now the new Macolm Jr.

And I disagree that "things aren't any worse than they used to be." I think we are heading for massive instability when the economy crashes. Prior to the New Deal we had much more frequent recessions, but now.... people seem to really hate each other. The TSA controls our movements as it forces us to submit at gunpoint to humiliation on the whim of a unionized high school dropout, civilian police are beginning to resemble military special ops hit squads, the government takes our pictures on the streets, unmanned drones are taking to American airspace to keep an eye on us, it is illegal to photograph police as they put their boots on our neck, and "probable cause" gives the government the right to invade our homes whenever it likes, and frequently does. It could be just my new, darker, more realist mindset, but no empire lasts forever, and the next lit fuse can always be the one that sets off the powder keg.

Hey but at least we can stop hoarding birth control because that is the important thing.

The fuse tends to be very long and slow burning. It needs at least a few decades.

I'd say it was lit in November, 2000.

Oh, well yeah, we are more of a police state than ever before. I was specifically referring to the partisan hatred. That's not new, and still not yet as bad as it was in the 1800s.

And now it is time to decline the Thanksgiving Dinner invitation on Facebook. Sigh.

In the 1800's the partisan hatred was limited to the idiots in Congress and whoever happened to be within the sound of your voice when you were standing in your tobacco field with your nearest neighbor 2 miles away. And you only heard about the bullshit in congress 3 weeks after the fact when the news finally got to you. Now, everyone talks to the entire world 24 hours a day, and the pressure cooker is boiling harder than it was possible in the past. I don't see any release valve.

The good news is that when the economic collapse does come, and social order falls apart, the cities will be dead within about 7 days when the food shipments stop coming in and the food riots rape and kill every liberal that doesn't have a gun to defend themselves with.

Are you seriously skipping Thanksgiving dinner with family because of politics?

No, I am cutting them from my life because they are assholes, and it just became clear to me during this political season.

Don't worry, someone else figured it out millennia ago. There's a shitload of things to talk about in the entire world, and it's so easy to lose focus.
