When some dog nearly shits on your beach blanket, it makes you notice these things.

I've never seen anything like that occur, and I've been to beaches on Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific, and countless smaller lakes.

Even if I did, I wouldn't blame the dog. It's the owners fault.

Would you ban guide dogs from the beach?

Truthfully, dog poop is probably the least of anyone's concerns. Nobody is eating the sand or setting their food onto the sand. If you step in it, it cleans right off in the large body of water next to the sand.

And let's talk about that water, which is the toilet for every species of fish, most birds, many of the human beach visitors, etc. Not to mention all the pollutants and bacteria in it. When you swin, you're getting that water into your body. You can't stop it.

Going back to the sand, what's in that? I mean, have you seen the huge flocks of gulls that hang out on beaches? How do you know that one such flock wasn't parked where you ended up laying down your blanket? That would mean that you're literally setting up camp in their shit.

Or how about geese? You want to talk about harmful feces, few in the animal kingdom beat a goose in that category. Pregnant woman are told to avoid any contact whatsoever.

I think you just had a bad experience, but you're focusing your anger at an innocent animal rather than the asshole responsible.

They have a regular fenced off beach for dogs and owners in Chicago. Thats cool. The only problem was all the dogs shitting on the way to there beach.

Really, though, is dog poop more disgusting than fish poop and bird poop and walrus poop and bum poop and all that other stuff?

I just don't get it.

Yes.

Absolutely it is more gross, imo.

Except goose poop can be almost as bad.

Bum poop would be the worst.

It's funny how all of the points that I made during our conversation were made by various people throughout this thread. This just proves that I am right.

I think "who cares about dog poop on the beach because there is a lot of other poop too" was the worst argument.

It's just ironic that you mention "good clean fun" while your playing in nature's litter box.

I think the second worst argument was "It is good clean fun because all the dog shit is the fault of the inconsiderate humans, not the animals."

It's still dog shit and piss, no matter whose fault it is, and not fun.

But your question was if dogs on the beach are good clean fun or messy. The dogs are really fun when managed properly.

It's not the act of drinking on the beach that is nasty. It's the idiot that pisses and vomits on the beach that is nasty.

The dog running and playing in the sand is not nasty. It's the idiot that doesn't manage their pet that is nasty.

If it's a pet of an owner, then it is the owner's responsibility to keep things clean and neat, not the dog's. Just like anything else that's taken to the beach (beer, kids, vehicles, etc), it has to be managed so as not to ruin the experience for other people.

This reminds me of the St. Louis town that passed a law prohibiting cats from attacking birds.

Back to the matter at hand, Why do you want to ban all dogs because a handful of owners can't clean up after them? Doesn't that logic go against your stances on other issues where you don't believe the many should be punished because of the actions of a few? Not to mention that you're asking big brother to step in and make a law...

I think "who cares about dog poop on the beach because there is a lot of other poop too" was the worst argument.

It's almost as bad as "I want all dogs banned from beaches because a dog pooped ten feet from my blanket once."

I think the second worst argument was "It is good clean fun because all the dog shit is the fault of the inconsiderate humans, not the animals."

It's still dog shit and piss, no matter whose fault it is, and not fun.

And you can't just throw out the "there's poop everywhere" point, and then use that statement to back up your argument.

Except goose poop can be almost as bad.

Dog poop is washed off easily by the water. Goose poop can kill you.

But yeah, dog poop is WAY worse... :D

I guess you don't keep up with politics, then.

1. Vince: For all intents and purposes, caviar is fish jizz.

2. Leisher: I have never advocated banning dogs from beaches. I just think it's nasty. When "no pets on this beach" is posted at the beach accesses, I'd love it if the owners were fined for violating. Even better, I'd like it if owners were force-fed their pets' gritty feces if it wasn't picked up out of the sand immediately.

Anyway, this is why I won't go to a popular beach in the summer. Too many people being too nasty.

I bet I could kill you with dog poop.

And to reiterate, half of what you just said assumed I said BAN ALL DOGS FROM BEACHES. I never said it nor implied it.
