The exact same amount of "yes" as saying voter ID laws are racist.

You could set a limit on the number of people allowed inside at one time and when it's full keep out more until some leave. You could require pre-registration and set up and online registration system and enforce those limits by turning others away. There are various ways to keep the numbers down a bit and limit access that are relatively fair.

If only the low- and mid-level bureaucrats in the stalwart, noble land of state gov't could apply reasonable standards for residency, as opposed to the parts of the brain they use when they draw up voting districts in a fair and impartial manner. I didn't know you were such a government fanboi, G.

Voting is one of the few things the various constitutions say the governments are allowed to do. I'd like to see it done fairly, and without fraud... a pipe dream.

You trust the gov't to self-regulate its own election? Yeah, that is a pipe dream, homie.

Voter ID laws so dickish a court of appeals struck them down.
One reason is access. According to a 2014 brief filed by opponents of the law, just three of Wisconsin's 92 DMV offices are open after 5pm, and just two are open on weekends, making it difficult for many working people to get there. Over half operate just two days per week. One, in rural Sauk City, is open just three days a year.

Ahead of Wisconsin's April primary, MSNBC spoke to one Madison high school senior who needed to make an hour-and-a-half round trip by bus to get an ID at the nearest DMV. He succeeded only after getting help from an organizer with a group that works to get voter IDs to those who need them.

Then there's the issue of public education. After years of being told you need an ID to vote and you need other documents to get an ID, would-be voters must now hear and understand the news that it's no longer the case. The court is requiring Wisconsin to publicize the new rules, but given the Walker administration's past failure to provide money for a public education campaign on the law, voting rights advocates are skeptical that the state will run an effective campaign.

Finally, the law's opponents say they don't trust DMV clerks to consistently carry out the state's pledge to give IDs to all comers.

"We have evidence that DMV employees, whether due to poor training or otherwise, do not consistently implement the procedures even on the books," said Young of the ACLU. "You can't make the DMV the ultimate gatekeeper to our democracy."
If you trust the DMV to hand out IDs and determine who can and cannot vote, then I'm going to trust psychiatrists to hand out gun licenses and determine who can and can't bear arms.

I have no idea what you're arguing about any more. I said someone would call a high fee to get into a national park racist, just like how people call voter ID racist. It is a fact, that happens. I honestly have no idea what point you're trying to make after that.

Oddly, while they claim there has never been an incident of voter fraud (makes you wonder why we bother making laws, huh?) there has never been a documented account of an individual wanting a state valid photo ID being unable to obtain one. So it appears both sides are fucking cry baby pussy holes.

The US is getting too crowded.

Post by GORDON »

The other day, elsewhere, I posted that the USA was growing by over a million people per year. I've been contemplating that.... per state, that would be 20k each year, but we know some states grow more than others. SO states like Ohio and NC probably grow by more than the average.

And I've been contemplating that my local (mid sized) city's facebook page has been showing more, and more, AND MORE car accidents every day. Several cars a day run reds, get hit and roll over, for example. Highways are getting backed up daily, because cars decide to start demolition derbying. It feels like the rate is increasing, year to year.

So then I get to wondering about accident rates, and if it is more or less tied to population. Like.... one car accident per thousand people per day, for example? Something like that.

If so, that leads to the conclusion that eventually, with continued growth (fast), and no changes to infrastructure (slow), we're all going to hit a point where our streets deadlock. City streets will be clogged every day. Impassable.

And is that what liberals want? They hate cars, love public transportation, and want immigrants voting D.
