There were many soccer style kickers back then. In fact, I think Dempsey might have been one of the last straight on guys? I could absolutely be wrong about that, but I think that's correct.

The training and pre-conditioned balls are definitely factors.

The stadiums and turf play a roll too.

While we're discussing kickers, here's the GOAT calling out his shitty OC. (I mentioned this clip a few days ago.)

It did. People complained, and he had to change shoes to be more like everyone else's, and he didn't set another record.
Cakedaddy wrote: Mon Nov 03, 2025 8:55 am Also, isn't it just a few kickers doing it over an over? It's not like all teams have 60+ yard kickers, do they?
6 teams have a kicker who has made a 60+ FG in the regular season. So it's not everyone.
Cakedaddy wrote: Mon Nov 03, 2025 8:55 am The new kicking style (since Dempsy), and a wider, out of the old normal box, search for talent = longer kicks.
Being a kicker is awesome. I wanted my kid to be a kicker, but I had girls, and they couldn't kick enough. You don't do much, you don't get hit, and you make decent money, even if you're accused of sexual assault

Shitty Sunday for you, but at least you get to watch Dallas suck.

This season feels pretty over already. Go Panthers, I guess.

The Dallas Cowboys are finalizing a trade to acquire veteran linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer.
Trading away a LB.

Strange trade.

Terrible defense improves by trading for LB in league's worst defense?

The Indianapolis Colts are trading first-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027 to the New York Jets for star cornerback Sauce Gardner, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter, a massive deal ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.

Preach JJ.

Jets are blowing it up!

Colts are all in on a SB run.

Cowboys are delusional.

The Seahawks adding Shaheed is a big deal. Now they have someone to stretch the field opening JSN up even more. They're a legit contender.

Raiders trading Jacobi Myers gives my fantasy team a small boost. He actually becomes a viable starter. Geno is washed.

The system is as important as the player.

Justin Fields is an all world talent, but he doesn't process fast enough. Are NFL offenses are too complex or has the coaching around him simply been shit? The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Swap Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield's different situations...would Baker be "the GOAT"? He's got the talent, attitude, and so on. Would Brady have become Brady if he was drafted by Cleveland?

Point being, it's not just the player.

Great, just sit him behind that O-line that gives you 10 seconds to make a decision. I think it's called OSU playing their early season creampuffs.

Ha! Our line has had its issues. However, he performed well against even the big name teams.

Truth be told, I think the game is too fast for him to process at the NFL level. Also, one thing you forgot and is really the biggest factor: College open is different from NFL open. I think he has a really hard time with that.
