If you're running an Ironman out on the Sahara or something, your mileage may vary. But lots of what you sweat out ain't water, so trying to replace it with water isn't the best substitution.

I've been on hikes in the Marines where we sweat so much the salt crystals were visible on our camis, but I still don't think we drank 2 gallons of water that day. 1, easily, but not 2.

But I just made a $100 bet with a co-worker to lose 15% by June 1st, so now there's money on the line.

Today: 213.5 lbs goal: 181.5
OK, I'm getting serious about this now.

Current weight (yesterday): 215.
Target: 181.5

I'm trying the 4-hour body version of low-carb diet.

Though, I have to learn how to make beans.

Breakfast: 3 eggs, 6 pieces of bacon, 1 cup low sugar OJ and 1/4 of a banana. (~75 calories from sugar). Needs to be lower, but I dont have the beans/greens yet.

Lunch will hopefully be ham, spinach, and beans.

I fell off the wagon a bit.

Was down to 201.something last week, but 1) I usually cheat for a night or two on weekends, and 2) circumstances arose a couple other nights recently where I gave in to temptation.

Currently 206. Still down 11 pounds overall, but 5 up from my low. Getting tired of dieting... may have to just gird my loins and hit my 190 goal in the next couple weeks.

Yesterday:

Breakfast: 3 eggs, 6 pieces of bacon, 1 cup low sugar OJ and 1/4 of a banana.
Lunch: 1/2 lb of ham, bowl of raw spinach, 1 can of pinto beans, refried.
Dinner: 600 calories beef/broccoli. Got hungry, so ate 2 tbsp of peanut butter.

Still felt like I was missing "something" in each meal... prolly cuz I normally eat a fair amt of carbs, and some ice cream/candy each day.

Today:
Breakfast: 3 eggs; 1/2 package of bacon; 1 cup low sugar OJ, 1/2 banana.

Still feeling full. Have not been hungry enough to get lunch. Less of that "should be eating something" feeling that I had yesterday, so far.

Weird side effect of this diet: I have cut waaaay down on sugar, like a 95% cut. It makes me tired earlier. I am actually sleeping normal hours. I used to think I was a night owl, not falling asleep before 2, getting 5 or 6 hours, and suffering through the day sucking down more sugar and caffeine to stay awake. Now, on days I don't cheat on the diet, I can hardly make it to 11:30, I am getting the 7 hours of sleep I need, and I don't need sugar all day.

Funny you should post that, I was second guessing my own statement last night.

Instead of sugar I am using Truvia. Zero calorie sweetener. Last night at about 7:30 I made some tea, Earl Gray, hot, to sip while I watched Eureka.

I couldn't get to sleep until after midnight.

So I think caffeine may be a factor, too. I used to drink almost half a gallon of iced sweet tea at dinner at 6pm, maybe the caffeine was keeping me up half the night.

I have also cut way down on the soft drinks, so less sugar and caffeine there.

Yeah, the yanss article on caffeine really rang a bell with a lot of people I know. they wake up nearly dead, then get a super-tall-hyper-espresso-starbucks, and are human again. rinse repeat.

I'm down to 3 diet cokes a day from a peak of 5. enough caffeine that it feels good in the morning, but not so much that i feel dead every morning. I'd like to get back down to 2.

Last January, I stopped drinking sodas. That lasted until the summer, when I started playing music again. I'd have a Saturday night gig, get home at 3am or so. My body would naturally wake up at around 8am (durn kids). But I was wiped out by noon and would just lay on the couch.

212 today.

When I did the Atkins diet in the past, I had horrible energy, bad mood, and headaches.

The beans REALLY seem to be helping with that. I haven't felt crappy, nor have I felt hungry, and I'm already getting past that "sweet fix" I used to need a lot.

The real test will be weekends. But after this weekend, I'm going to try the 1x/week cheat day like the book does.

Weekends are what kill me. I'll lose 5 pounds during the week then gain 4 back when I pig out on pizza on Saturday night.

Ok, I'm finally getting started. Lacrosse started and I'm working out again. I don't have a special diet. I just try to eat less and somewhat better. Still at 210, target, 195, maybe 190. Below 190, I'm too skinny. (except for my gut. Can never get rid of my gut.)

She isn't helping me diet.

Back to 201.2... where I was before I went to Cleveland for 2 days and ate too much. I think the night I ate ribs and bbq chicken and washed it down with 4 beers was probably the main culprit.

If tonight wasn't pizza night I would drop under 200 this weekend... but alas.

211 today, so 4 pounds in the first week, no doubt some of that is water, so we'll see how things go from here out.

Down to 200.0 this morning.... if I can manage to stay on-diet today, tomorrow morning will be a milestone.

Had a black bean burrito (burrito con frijoles negro) for brunch. Those damned tortillas are 210 calories, but I kept it light on the beans.
