Oh, wait, no. We are getting the same answer. Well, except I calculated the first four games on a random selection of the full field instead of on a pre-selected eight teams. But otherwise we are getting the same result.

The 2^67 is collapsing it based on every game being 50/50, regardless of what teams are playing.

The real odds... yes, you'd have to do something crazy with those nearly infinite possibilities.

You still need to pick the winner of every game. It's 50/50 between "winner" and "loser" every time. Doesn't matter who advances if you fill out the entire bracket up front.

That is wrong. The odds are not 50/50.

He basically said the same things we did, then at the very end of the video he did this hand wavy "some people know some things about basketball so their odds are better" thing. Lame.

Northwestern football players trying to form a union.

Their argument is that they're employees.

Whoever is advising them is a moron.

Northwestern doesn't give a fuck about athletics. I could easily see them declaring all scholarships for athletes have been revoked, and anyone who wants to play sports can do so, but will receive zero benefits from the school. No pay, no employment.

So these "employees" pay tuition money to ... uh, work?
Unlike graduate teaching assistants, who have been ruled to be students and not employees in previous NLRB decisions because they are supervised by faculty, athletes are supervised by coaches, the professors explain. "The fact that coaches, not faculty members, supervise the athletes' services demonstrates that players' work as athletes is not educational in nature."

Look for a shitload of coaches to start teaching five minutes of health every semester followed by nothing but teaching assistant lectures after then.

Mark Cuban suggests an alternative to college.

Hard to argue that he's wrong considering if you remove NBA and replace it with MLB, it's already in place and works.

That may be the sanest thing he's said in years. Maybe ever.

Another lawsuit filed against the NCAA.

Apparently, this time it's serious because this guy is a heavy hitter.

I don't agree with his assessment in the final paragraph:
"This will end up saving college sports," he said. "It will end up with fair treatment for athletes and a more sustainable, attractive product and system that everyone can get behind, just like in football, basketball, baseball and hockey at the pro level. The owners in the 1970s said free agency and competition for players would destroy those sports. All you have to do is look at those sports today -- just the opposite has happened."

First, besides a ridiculously slanted system towards the SEC in college football, what exactly does college sports need to be saved from?

Second, aren't players coming out of high school already free agents?

Third, baseball was slightly ruined by free agency because only big market teams can compete, or those willing to spend tons of money. Doesn't your system basically do the same? Goodbye small schools!

Fourth, to keep things fair, won't we need rules? Who will govern those rules? The NCAA or a new entity that's basically the NCAA? And are we to believe cheating will end under a new system?

Again, let's say the NBA gets their "3 years out of high school" rule passed, which is item #1 on Adam Silver's agenda. What's to stop schools from announcing that they'll end scholarships for athletes? They'll still have the athletic programs, but will no longer offer scholarships. Now you've got football and basketball players with their thumbs up their asses for three years?

many of whom never gradate

Whose fault is that?

America is a capitalist nation with laws to protect the free market.

What fucking country do you live in?

Third, baseball was slightly ruined by free agency because only big market teams can compete, or those willing to spend tons of money. Doesn't your system basically do the same? Goodbye small schools!

Goddamn, that sport needs a salary cap.

What's to stop schools from announcing that they'll end scholarships for athletes? They'll still have the athletic programs, but will no longer offer scholarships.

I would laugh so hard.

A more empirical way to fill out a bracket is to use some sort of team power rating to calculate the probability of each game’s outcome, then choose the most likely set of 63 outcomes. A 2006 attempt using Ken Pomeroy’s ratings found the most likely bracket had a 1-in-722 billion chance of being right, and in 2011 the figure was 1 in 83 billion.

This sounds about right to me. Much more appropriate than the 50-50 odds of every came theory.

Warren's safe.
Yahoo reports that one contestant correctly picked the tournament's first 32 games, but did not sign up for the billion-dollar contest.

Say goodnight, Gracie.
Brad Binder had the last perfect bracket in America.
...
But his 15 minutes of fame ended after Dayton upset Syracuse 55-53 on Saturday night.
