Seems logical we should have this rather than several threads.
It's cold out. We have no working water at the office. Yes, I'm working. Our board is a bunch of old white people.

My chickens won't leave the hen house when it's this cold.
Their water heater, to make sure it's always liquid, is out in the chicken run.
So on days like this, I need to go out three times a day to swap out liquid water for frozen, in their hen house.
Farmer problems.

I'm working too, but we don't do any of the minor holidays. But it's a light day (my boss is out because kids aren't in school). I ran my morning team meeting, then rode my bike for an hour and canceled my afternoon meting.
I had the top down on my convertible yesterday. Ohio sucks.

This is the coldest period in the past few years. But I think the winter will still be mild overall, like last year
I kinda dig global warming. If I can't afford to move to the tropics, they can come to me.

Pipes are frozen in the office so the kitchen and bathrooms up front are broken.
We're down to a single shitter for each sex and the kitchenette in the middle of the building.

Bundle up everyone, it's about to get nippy.
Despite the language, the link is SFW. It's CNN and a severe cold snap is coming.

Let's clear cut some rainforest and build a compound in South America.

The tip of America's wang is only going to be 65. Those people will be in parkas.

No thanks, I've read that story.
Why don't we just buy an island?

There's a story I haven't thought about in a long time. Couldn't remember that title for the life of me.

I'd love an island. But the salt and sand isn't conducive to crops. Plus hurricanes and rogue waves that sweep it clean sometimes,

Build a greenhouse.
If we do it properly, the U.S. government will pay for us to rebuild.

NC is probably one of those states that doesn't use salt either??? Southern states are completely paralyzed by any form or snow or ice.

Well, 1) it's an ice storm, that derails anywhere, Southern or not. 2) We use salt, but we have very few plows. 3) An unusual cold snap will follow this storm, whereas normally stuff just melts in a day or two.
We are forecasting an ice storm today and if the trends hold, it could be a major event. We need you to prepare for a few days or possibly more of no power. Make sure you have enough heating and ways to charge your devices.

I have heard you should be prepping for a week, minimum, without power.
Godspeed Catt. We'll see you on the other side!

Ok, at least they use salt so that helps. i was up in Charlevoix Michigan last spring for a wedding and there was still quite a bit of snow up there still. I was surprised to find out they just use sand to fix the roads, it doesn't work all that well. I'd think somewhere like northern Michigan would definitely have a healthy supply of salt for their roads.

When I was in the service they used pellets of cow piss on the airfield. I do not know how it was made or worked, but that's what I was told.
Google says urea is a primary component in that and lots of commercial de-icers. That base was right next to a massive cow farming area, so I wonder if it was just a local thing?
I ever tell you guys about the shit fog?
