About a month to go, 50M uninsured still remain. Warning, the amount of anti-logic contained in the next three sentences confounds sanity:
A released data says around 75 percent of the Americans without any insurance are unaware to the deadline. The primary goal of the Affordable Care Ats is to inform such people of the deadline as well as the penalties. The administrators are looking ahead for educating the people who is confused about the ACA.

Thank god someone's educating all those people who is confused.

In other news, Maryland pisses away $30.5M due to ...
Maryland’s defective exchange, the state cannot determine whether customers remain eligible for Medicaid, according to a report by state budget analysts released Thursday.

As a result, the state has agreed with the federal government to a six-month delay in determining eligibility, meaning that payments will continue to be made to customers who are not eligible until the system is fixed. The delay will cost the state $17.8 million in fiscal 2014 and $12.7 million in fiscal 2015, the analysts estimated.

Next time some hippy tells you that republicans buy elections because they have the Kock Brothers giving them money, whip this little chart at them.

Gov't bails out health care industry giants.
Health insurers such as WellPoint Inc. (WLP) and Humana Inc. (HUM) stand to gain $5.5 billion from the government next year to cover losses from Obamacare in a program the law’s opponents label a bailout.

The money, outlined in President Barack Obama’s proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins in October, is designated to help insurers who find the cost of the law higher than expected, based on the percentage of older, sicker people who sign up compared with younger enrollees.

There was certainly no corruption or bribery involved in this.

Insurance is more expensive than it used to be.

People are getting weaker plans for more money.

Insurance companies are somehow losing more money because of this.

Government gives insurance companies free money.

How can even the liberal media not smell something fishy?

Because slamming jack-asses is seen as implicit support of the pachyderms. If you're against one this administration, you're a racist and implicitly supporting the pro-white pachyderms. Rockin' thing, this two party system.

I pray to jeebus the first woman in the White House isn't a donkey. I want to see how that shit plays out.

Maybe the TNG episode that holds up the best.
PICARD: This is not unlike a drumhead trial.
WORF: I do not understand.
PICARD: Five hundred years ago, military officers would upend a drum on the battlefield sit at it and dispense summary justice. Decisions were quick, punishments severe, appeals denied. Those who came to a drumhead were doomed.
WORF: But we know there is a traitor here. J'Dan has admitted his guilt.
PICARD: That's true, and he will stand for his crimes.
WORF: Tarses has all but done the same.
PICARD: How?
WORF: He refused to answer the question about his Romulan grandfather.
PICARD: That is not a crime, Worf. Nor can we infer his guilt because he didn't respond.
WORF: Sir, if a man were not afraid of the truth, he would answer.
PICARD: Oh, no. We cannot allow ourselves think that. The Seventh Guarantee is one of the most important rights granted by the Federation. We cannot take a fundamental principle of the Constitution and turn it against a citizen.
WORF: Sir, the Federation does have enemies. We must seek them out.
PICARD: Oh, yes. That's how it starts. But the road from legitimate suspicion to rampant paranoia is very much shorter than we think. Something is wrong here, Mister Worf. I don't like what we have become.

Emphasis mine.

His words were pretty much bullshit to begin with, with a private citizen in mind. Public officials serving in a public capacity should have little to no leeway in those areas. The purpose of the Fifth is so you can't be forced into self-incrimination as the only evidence for a conviction; it doesn't exist to cover up acts of personal incompetence.

I don't think you're allowed to testify to your innocence before saying you won't testify either. That's why most defendants don't testify. Once they get up there they are allowed to be cross examined. I think she'd have been in better legal shape (public opinion aside) if she'd gone with the 5th before she swore under oath that she did nothing wrong and didn't break the law.

I do not forget that this is the head of the IRS, the second-most hated US gov't agency, and I consider any individual that wants and accepts that position almost has to be an utterly corrupt and unsympathetic individual. But presumably, non-assholes could invoke the same thing.

US gov't weasels around human rights violations.
On Tuesday, a 34-year-old Yemeni national who has been held at Guantanamo Bay since 2002 alleged in a court filing that detainees have been force-fed up to a gallon at a time of nutrient and water.

That place must be kept open just for the campaign promises for the next tool that runs for office.
