Financially speaking, currently it still makes more sense for most of those healthy people to just pay the penalties. Much cheaper.

This year the penalty is only $95, but I know it increases after that.

If Obamacare remains a Thing, I can see some really harsh IRS enforcement coming because it is going to be bankrupt out of the gate. Good thing they bought so much ammo. Shit's gonna hurt.

I can't decide if

1) the shittiness of Obamacare is intentional, so as to make everybody throw up their hands and say, "fuckit let's just do what Canada does."
or
2) it's just the usual government incompetence

Speaking of jobs. I just liberated myself from my most recent one.

I've spent the last 3 months taking phone calls from insurance agents/brokers who were attempting to navigate the miserable gauntlet that is registering on the Obamacare websites to be eligible to sell insurance on the Federally Facilitated Marketplaces. The poor tortured souls would spend hours on hold to get to one of us, who then informed them they had to "be patient" and "keep trying". Some of them were beyond frantic. If they couldn't complete the process, they were basically out of business.

I felt like a Catholic priest working at Planned Parenthood.

Or a PETA member working in a slaughterhouse.

Last Friday, I'd had enough. Walked out. Fin. Worst job I've ever had. And that list includes spending 8 hours a day in a hot factory with a hand-held pneumatic air-chisel (basically a small hand-held jackhammer) removing slag from welds on steel tractor frames.

It cost the federal government more than $300 million for outside contractors to set up the Obamacare website that has had so much trouble in its first three weeks of operation.
Most of that money has gone to six contractors that together have received more than $200 million in taxpayer funds, with the biggest single contractor receiving $88 million.
Overall, the government has spent $394 million setting up the website and the exchanges through which the public can buy health insurance, according to a report earlier this year from the General Accountability Office, a government watchdog. While not all the money went into the troubled websites, most of it did.

So was that one after the other because they kept making a mess of it and someone else had to come in to clean it up, and then mess it up themselves? Or was that all at once and this is a failure of too many cooks in the kitchen?

I'm so pissed I didn't think of this when the law was signed into effect. Fuck, I'd give them a solid skeleton for $1M up front and finish the rest for $9M.

It doesn't even matter what they want. $10M can hire overkill resources to do this, I don't give a fuck how much traffic, volume, bandwidth, or people are in play.
