2016 General Election Thread
Re: 2016 General Election Thread
My parents and younger sister voted for Trump. Older sister for Johnson. I voted McMullin. I knew I wasn't going to be happy with the results from the get-go. My Trump family members are pretty much accepting that Trump's a turd, but they are willing to cut him more slack than I am.

Re: 2016 General Election Thread
Interaction this weekend.
Me = me this weekend, at a liquor store. Him = Clerk from another country - my age.
Me: "Hey, I'd like to get this bottle of wine and this chocolate"
Him: "Ok, *rings up order* how are you doing?"
Me: "Doing great, you?" (wrong answer)
Him "Where were you born?"
Me: *confused* Raleigh, NC, why?
Him "This country?"
Me: *realizes where this is going* "Yes, I was born in America. Can I get the receipt, thanks"
Him "muttering incoherently"
A first for me. Pretty sure he was trying hard to bait me into a political argument because I guess I look... white? Like a Trump supporter? I mostly brushed it off, I don't even know how to turn on the alt-right crazy to oblige him with some racist shit if I wanted to.

Re: 2016 General Election Thread
I didn't vote for Trump, the wife did. One aunt said over and over that Trump voters are scum, racists, bigots, KKK members, etc. The other aunt said, "Hey, if the shoe fits." Basically, I don't want to be around people that unstable. What if they decide to do more than just talk? They've already proven themselves insane.TheCatt wrote:No. but then, i'm an independent, and so's my wife.GORDON wrote:So have any of your friends or/and family crossed any lines in their meltdowns? It's not me, it's someone else.
Re: 2016 General Election Thread
And now the wife wants to go to the inauguration because we've been invited by peeps there, and I'm like... just great. If there was ever going to be a suicide bomber at an inauguration...

What were the quotes that crossed the lines?GORDON wrote:So have any of your friends or/and family crossed any lines in their meltdowns? I now have 2 aunts that I'll probably never speak to again.
I have friends and family on both sides who have said offensive things both before and after the election, but none were aimed at me. They all knew I was voting Johnson and pretty much left me alone. It helps that I purposely commented on NOTHING political.
OH! I just remembered that I do have a black friend who legit said to me: "This country isn't for me. It's not for me. I honestly don't trust or like anyone that doesn't look like me with only a small handful of exceptions, you being one of them." I could only respond by telling him to remember that every time he wants to condemn all people of one group or another. I watched him lose friends on FB as some of his white friends tried to talk him out of the hate he has. I didn't see the point. He's a single young man with no kids, he doesn't have the wisdom to engage in those discussions yet.

Re: 2016 General Election Thread
"Dangerously paranoid." That was the phrase I was grasping for, earlier. Most of my family is all about those diaper pins, showing they are afraid of the world (or want to appear to care... but no, they are actually crying real tears and medicating themselves out of fear). Paranoia and fear is a fun combination in already unsteady people.GORDON wrote:I didn't vote for Trump, the wife did. Re: 2016 General Election Thread
Fear of what exactly? What are they afraid of?
For the last 8 years:
-I've seen my taxes go up
-My prospects of being unemployed rise
-I've seen government spending spiral out of control
-I've watched as violence on white people was explained away as statistically unimportant while violence on minorities is the most important thing ever
-I've watched as people argued that criminals should be allowed to commit their crimes and not be in danger while cops aren't allowed to defend themselves
-I've watched a nation of hypocrites sit back and do nothing as black people in Chicago attempt to commit genocide on themselves
-I've watched as over 50% of the country became dependent on the government tit
-As a straight white male I've been told countless times that I'm the root of all evil, I'm racist, I'm sexist and I'm anti-gay
-I've watched as the government murdered my fellow Americans without trial
-I've watched as not only was our freedom of speech attacked, but also our freedom to simply believe any alternative viewpoint
-I'm watching protests and violence committed by people who claim to be about Democracy, tolerance, and peace just because their candidate didn't win an election
-I'm watching millionaire athletes refuse to respect the country they live in and enjoy the freedoms it offers because they feel oppressed and then they don't vote
-I'm watching black millionaires boycott an awards ceremony because they feel unrepresented despite the actual numbers showing they're overrepresented
-I've watched countless acts of terror carried out in the name of Islam, yet I constantly get told I can't have suspicion towards any Muslim or I'm racist
-I've watched as the MSM has become more about money and ratings than reporting fact
-I've watched as opinion has become news
-I've watched every single media outlet get caught lying or being biased yet only people who watch FOX News are considered morons for simply watching the news
-I've watched as our education system has changed to only teach their students in preparation for tests that determine if the school gets funding
-I've watched as the way we teach math and English was replaced for no good reason. Apparently, the old system was so bad we put men on the moon using it...
-I've watched as colleges took the law into their own hands allowing young women to cry rape and the person they accuse instantly being publicly named and judged guilty
-I've watched as our youth became soft, getting trophies for just showing up and believing even that to be optional based on their mood.
-I've been told that a person's sex is now a choice and is fluid
I could do this list for hours and still not address all the concerns most Americans, yes even Hillary voters, have about where our country is headed.
You tell white people that they're old news, full of hate, not equal to you in any way, you want to take away their rights, you want them to pay for it (just realized that and it's hilarious), you want to take away their safety, and you quell any dissenting voice with violence or public shaming.
And you're afraid?

Sweet. We can trade all that for four more years of uselessly dicking around in the Middle East chasing our own fucking tails.

Yeah, that's a reasonable answer to what I just posted.
Seriously, I'm stunned that you're one of the many who gave Trump no chance to win.

Re: 2016 General Election Thread
Here it comes.
Maybe every American shouldn't have an election process that's stuck back in the 1800s and fundamentally retarded in every way, shape, and form. But removing this part isn't the way to go about it."In my lifetime, I have seen two elections where the winner of the general election did not win the popular vote," Boxer said in a statement. "The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."

Calling his getting into office a "win" for anyone is a gross bastardization of the word.Leisher wrote:Seriously, I'm stunned that you're one of the many who gave Trump no chance to win.

As I said, plenty of other people out there are dangerously paranoid, and/or completely unable to process a loss. Everybody else "feels the winningness."

Yep. I'm waiting to see how the Drumpfies spin his cabinet chock full of ex-Dubyuh regulars and ex-lobbyist appointments as "shaking things up and cleaning out Washington."GORDON wrote:As I said, plenty of other people out there are dangerously paranoid, and/or completely unable to process a loss. Seeing now that Pence has gone in to the transition team and removed all the lobbyists. Good news if true and it holds. But Obama promised that and it lasted all of about 8 minutes.
