This has some appeal to me. I'm sure it'd get a bit stale during slower moments, but such an event could be pretty cool if they did fun things with it.

I did the 12-hour Lord of the Rings marathon when I was 30, but a 27 hour Marvel marathon when I am 43 seems a bit out of my league.
That theater is going to STINK by the end.

I was thinking that I could do the same marathon at home, at a slower pace, pay less for food, and know whose farts I'm smelling.
That's why I said they'd have to do fun things to make it worth while.

My wife and I did an at-home marathon before The Avengers, watching most of the other movies, 1-2 nights / movie. It was pretty awesome.

Good times!

Whedon has been hinting about other folks appearing in the movie.
Okay, reading that Phil Coulson will still be dead as far as the movies are concerned. Because they don't want the movie goers to get confused or ticked off that they brought him back for Agents of SHIELD.
If they're going to keep all these moving parts isolated, what's the point? Doesn't bode well for any of the non-movie franchises (looking at you, Daredevil) having any impact or lasting meaning in the Marvel Universe.

Uhm...do they know anything about comics? At all?

DD makes references to the Avengers and the Battle of New York. Also, it's already on record that DD will team up with Jessica Jones, Power Man (Luke Cage), and Iron Fist to form The Defenders and that'll be a movie. Rumors have them meeting the Avengers.
Also, DD is a street level guy. His impact is on Hell's Kitchen, not the world. That's a theme that gets talked about a lot in the comics.

They refer to the movies in Agents of SHIELD all the time as well, but apparently things won't be reciprocated. They've just tempered my expectations a lot when I read about that.

They probably don't want to deal with the (retro)continuity problems.

In the show Coulson told Lady Sif more than once to keep his being alive a secret, because he wanted to tell the Avengers in his own time. Is that no longer the thing? Have they completely branched the show out of the universe? Because I will not accept that.

“As far as I’m concerned, in this movie, Coulson’s dead. If you come back in the sequel and say Coulson’s alive, it’s like putting f***ing John Gielgud in the sequel to ‘Arthur.’ It mattered that he’s gone. It’s a different world now. And you have to run with that.”
Probably just wishful thinking on my part but it doesn't sound definitive... I think the reveal just won't happen in THIS movie. I bet it will be in Captain America: Civil War and it will give the Avengers a big reason to hate Nick Fury.
