There was a highway in Missouri in the northwest of the state, I forget which. It must have been turtle migration time, because there was about 1 fist-sized turtle for every linear foot of road, for about a half mile. Once I realized what was all over the road I opened the windows... you could hear a turtle pop about every 4 seconds as a car flattened it.

It was more surreal than sad.
