I'm pro removal of all confederate monuments, aside from those at battle fields or museums.Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said the city faces a fine for violating a state law that bans the removal of Confederate and other long-standing monuments. Woodfin said the cost of a fine would be more affordable than the cost of continued unrest in the city.

I am proud to say I was predicting the outcome back when it was actually happening. When the mob comes for me someday, I will burn very self-satisfied that I was morally the better person.
Came here for this link to show someone else, and wow did CNN completely alter that piece. Now the violence against the cops is buried at the bottom. CNN is clearly pandering to its base. Not a single story about the cops killed or attacked anywhere on their front page at the moment.
If you read the article, he did not.
Ah, racism... no trial, just guilty.
Follow-up on the mayor's threat (and eventual removal) to remove the statueTheCatt wrote: Birmingham removes confederate monument, faces a fine from the state of Alabama.

The Root has obtained audio files of phone calls from the city’s 911 emergency system made by mourners to the lost cause of the Confederate States of America’s white supremacist utopia. The calls giving Woodfin a piece of their racist minds include such hits as:
“If you take down that statue in Linn Park, that Confederate statue, I’m gonna come down there with an AK-47 and start blowing the pigs away. And the protesters. You hear me?”
“I’m gonna assassinate nigger Randall Woodfield [sic] and kill that dead nigger. You better call that shit off right now.”
You think I’m playing? It’ll be all over the news, punk ass. I’m coming down there right now (unintelligible) to blow your fucking head off, asshole
Fuck off asshole. I’ll hang you from a tree, nigger.
Everyone waited.
White guilt at its finest. Listen, his heart is truly in the right place, and while I'm certain being white did open some doors for him, he overlooks the most important part of his story: Money. He didn't succeed because of white privilege, he succeeded because his family had money. His story is about how many obstacles money eliminated from his life, not how many his skin color eliminated. Without money, he wouldn't have been able to move to a nice suburb and attend a good school. So, where would he be now without those advantages?TheCatt wrote: Worth a read.
Emphasis mine. Clearly the racist overlords were asleep at the wheel if black people somehow got into that neighborhood!!! Or maybe this is proving my point about how equality was becoming a bigger thing and more opportunities were opening up for POC. I'm guessing these were hard working folks who busted their ass to get there rather than sitting around whining about how they deserve to be handed things (something people of all races do and have done forever). She sold that house, and used the proceeds to buy a much smaller house in Glen Ellyn, IL, a wealthy, nearly all-white (at the time) suburb of Chicago.
I won't even comment on the other quoted stuff. Stupidity like that isn't worth the typing.
