Rust - A thread for dying

Late on these replies, but yes, that is now a thing that you can do. Harvesting other players yields a low quality meat, fat, and bones of various types.
I have not cooked and eaten a human, but now that you lie injured for a while after being "killed" i berate cannibals and certainly don't pick them back up if I find human parts on them... or really anything worth taking actually

Also, I finally figured out a base setup that still has me alive on a high pop server 5 days since the last wipe, a new record. First, find a rock with a decently sized top, that cannot be climbed up to in any way. You really only need 4-5 stacks of wood to get started. I put one temporary foundation at the bottom, and build half blocks on at time on the temp foundation to "elevator" myself to the top.
Then I throw down a 3x3 foundation/floor combo at the top of the rock and put my tool cupboard in the middle of the 3x3. Eventually wall the 1x1 square with the cupboard with stone/metal.
Now, as long as you picked a good rock, the only way someone can take your base is to launch an obscene amount of rockets and get to your cupboard. It's so expensive to build that many rockets that it's not worth doing. 2-3 hours of straight rocket production, easy. And that's them knowing exactly where your cupboard is, which they don't because it's sealed off and hidden.
Guns are harder to find now, and researching stuff is a PITA. 30% chance max. I finally got my first gun yesterday, an assault rifle, only to fail researching it 3 times and waste a boatload of materials in the process. Eventually I gave up and used it to blow the head off a guy who was chopping wood to close to my rock!

Cake and I got tired of getting wrecked on a high pop server and joined a big group of other guys. Was a lot more fun that I thought it would be. Just checked before I headed off to play pick-up and I'm somehow still alive under the stairs. (i bet it 50/50 last night)

Back to gaming this weekend after a bit of a drought.
Been traveling for work and then was surfing in Costa Rica. And then fishing off the southern coast.
Anyway, internet games to be had. Will probably boot up Rust and check it out, maybe ARK. Would love to play Sup Comm too if we could get a group together.

Played the new update last night after at least a month on the shelf.
New resources? New random weather/and sunlight??
Stayed wet from the snow for long periods of time. Keep picking up "high quality metal - dunno what for", bone armor, leather stuff, new weapons, still working on processing it all. Tons of new content.

Jumped on this for an hour last night just to see how far they've come.
The thing that really caught my attention was how gorgeous the game has become. So much better looking than it was when it first was released.
Other changes:
-They've added all new buildings that look good. I even saw some sort of rock excavator.
-I saw a helicopter
-I saw horses and wild boars
-When I was wounded from a fall my guy laid there in pain and I couldn't do anything. He was "waiting" for a heal. Clearly a countdown timer until you die.
-I saw a bear stuck on the terrain, and that happened to me a few times so I would turn around and work my way around those spots.
-Blueprints are pretty cool now. You find blueprints or fragments. You can combine the fragments to make a blueprint or a blueprint page or a blueprint book. I believe (I didn't see this in action) that the farther up the chain you go, the more likely you'll get a rare blueprint.
-I found an air drop and it contained a stone hatchet thing. (Seriously?) Anyway, this led to me discovering a problem I have with the game. Items are now hidden in barrels that have to busted open. I broke my starting rock opening 5-10 of them. Opening two wore my stone hatchet down 25-30%. Several of these barrels were empty. The biggest problem was when I looked around for wood. There were no trees and none of those wood piles from the old days. I have no idea how to harvest wood unless the server I was on simply didn't have any.
Overall, the game "felt" more fun than it had to me previously since the huge change to the new engine.

Trees are the new wood source. they regrow every few in game days, too. You get a lot more wood from trees than you used to.
I've been on a hiatus from Rust for months now, maybe i'll try it out later this year. I quit about the time of the helicopter introduction. I didn't get to see one, but read that if you can down in, you can use the crash site electronics to build auto-turrets. Which is rad as hell.

I know trees are the new wood source. There was literally none anywhere on the server I was on. Bushes everywhere, but no trees.

Played it a bit more last night. Same server. Spawned in an area with trees. I think I found an area I had been in the night before and there were now trees there too, so either the server had changes made or something.
Anyway, I'm enjoying some of the changes made, but there's a stepper learning curve. MUCH harder to get going, imho. Animals seems really scarce, but again, could just be the server I'm on. I think as it currently stands, killing newbs would pretty much guarantee they're never returning. The learning curve is too steep, resources too spread out, etc. making it too difficult to get going as opposed to the previous game where you'd have somewhat of a secure shelter and weapons within the first 10 minutes.
I'm not a fan of the random map creation though. I think it's a mistake to go that route for this type of game.

I was killed this weekend on a new server by a helicopter. It could somehow see me in my freshly built house (wood walls) and was shooting its chain gun at me. It hit me a few times (WTF?) and I hid. My house was surrounded by high rocks, so it was hovering for a bit. Eventually I moved close to a wall to try and peek out and apparently it shot some missiles at me because I was on my back dying and the walls of my home on that side were destroyed.
So was that a player or AI? Can't say I'm a fan of that.
