I googled that sidewalk thing, and now I hate you.
For the cardboard/stairs thing... my siblings and i would get inside very slippery sleeping bags, and slide down the stairs. We would put pillows at the very bottom so as to not run into a wall.

The position of the chair has a lot to do with it.
For the 1" the volunteer just pivots back into the chair.
For the 6" he runs at it, so he slides further.
(Might as well call it a push too.)
