Anyone have any idea what the devs meant by "bigger things later on this week" in yesterday's update?

Someone tried to assault my throwaway base on the 30ish person server. They got unlucky because I had logged in during an hour lunch break and had a good law firm internet connection. On the server I've seen plenty of people while out resource collecting, but nobody near my base, so it was surprising and exciting at the same time.
I was defending, they were circling for weak spots and I was getting a few bursts with an un-silenced MP5 when I managed to see an exposed target. Nobody had killed anyone - I think it was two guys raiding me. Then night fell, and I could hear them outside still. Suddenly there was a ton of shooting, some running, and then... nothing... the night was super quiet, and felt like it lasted forever.
In the morning I jumped over my walls and looked around. Outside of a partially built invader staircase there were a bunch of backpacks, in various stages of looting.
I can only guess my shooting drew another group, and the two raiding groups went at it. Losses to both sides? I still have no idea. I didn't loot anything spectacular, but a solid amount of wood, resources, leather armor and food from the backpacks.
When my lunch break was over and I got back to work I noticed that I was sweating through my work shirt. I didn't realize how tense I had been, listening to every move in the dark and worrying my ass off. Love it.

An update hit today. Apparently, it adds TONS of content.
Just kidding.
New sky and new water. However, it also adds item durability. Meaning, your hatchets will wear out. Your armor will take damage. Etc.
This game is going to be awesome in 2018.

lol. I'm honestly not a fan of durability. Pain in the butt.

It definitely needs more NPC content. Durability was inevitable, I guess.

I'm actually in favor of durability depending on how it's done. It'll add to the attrition war that I hope one day Rust will have.
If my pickax breaks after a dozen resource piles it's simply going to suck. I'd also like to have a visual indication of an item's health.
I also really hope this wasn't the "big update" they had been planning. This was pretty lackluster.

Do guns wear out now, too?
Although now knowing how to research the research kit makes that much less of a problem, I guess.

That needs to be removed from the game.
I wish I knew what their end goal was here. Do they want death match with crafting or a more persistent world? I'm hoping it's the persistent world, and if so, they need to make items MUCH harder to come bye. Maybe they will. After all, this is just an Alpha, and they might want folks to have access to all this stuff.
Checking out another server to see the changes. Moon is much better looking. Still dark out though...
Funny server. No home invasions, but there is PVP. There are metal towers climbing to the sky...

One unadvertised change is that wood shelters can't just be placed anywhere. Know that great spot I found near Civ Coast? Can't put a shelter there anymore.
There is now a repair bench. The wood shelter just got tight...
They moved East and West...

I like how items get damaged AND permanently lose total hit points.
Makes the resources more important. It also adds another layer to attrition.
Is it me or are the resources spawning slower?
Oh, and wolves can all go fuck themselves. Their persistence is ridiculous.

The 1v5 guy has a 'no recoil' hack running, fyi. Full auto with the MP5 and there was ZERO detectable recoil.

I noticed a suspicious lack of recoil for some of the shooters in the reporter video too.

Two weeks and no update at all.
Rumor has it that one of the main programmers is dealing with personal issues. Meanwhile, Gary has been focused on that anti-cheating thing.
On a different note, I was thinking about the farming thing today and realized that when they roll this out, it could potentially make the rest of the island worth playing.
Even though the island is complete bullshit, and nothing more than a test area.
Came across some info on the forums where the final version should have a full road system, vehicles, cities, etc.
I'm beginning to think Alpha is too generous. That tag in the corner when you're playing should say "Rust Concept".

As it turns out, an update did hit. Just a QoL update though, nothing special.
