The party has got themselves into a pickle.
"Dinner Party At the Durst Mansion"
Session 2
The party began the morning by traveling along the road to the village of Barovia.
The party met Ismark, a local noble who had recently suffered a death in the family. He wanted their aid in a caper he had planned that evening. He was going to use his invitation to a local dinner party at a wealthy mansion to steal weapons. Weapons to be used against against the Dark Lord.
The plan involved half the party posing as nobles and rubbing shoulders with the elite.
The rest of the party was going to slip into the upstairs rooms unnoticed, casing the house for a key to the Durst family vault.
The party agreed to the job and were eventually hired for 5 platinum pieces a man, and the use of Ismark's private room at the tavern to plan their caper.
Ismark and his band arrived at the Durst Mansion late, after some confusion and attempted communication to various bland npcs in the area.
The Durst butler and chief servant, Alfred, managed to insult each member of the party. He extracted the noble forfeiture of weapons, customary in Barovia.
When the party arrived into the entrance floor, there was a loud, and ongoing dinner party in the north hall.
Alfred invited Ismark and his friends to make themselves comfortable in a well appointed hunting lounge in the south hall.
The nobles made themselves comfortable, Ismark and BeeDee staring alluringly into each other's eyes over champagne and dinner sandwiches. Koban committed crossbow theft.
The "servants" Alex, Zelda and Mordigan split up and explored the second and third floors of the sprawling Durst mansion.
Avoiding a music room with a buzzing orchestra, Zelda explored a servants quarters on the second floor, finding no leads.
Alex found the master bedroom on the third floor. He found items of significant value, but elected not to pilfer them.
Mordigan and Zelda searched the library, Mordigan discovered a secret study behind a bookshelf, in it was wooden chest.
The chest had:
A body,which they moved
A pouch with 25 platinum pieces. They split it.
They found a key, marked with a D.
There was also some reading material and a deed to a windmill. They took that too.
Ismark and Koban approached the dinner hall. BeeDee kept watch. As they approached and opened the door, the noise died immediately. What greeted them was an empty dining hall. A table set for many guests, champagne and finger sandwiches... but no other people.
A woman in dark robes appeared at the top of the third floor stairway, Ariana.
Loudly, and with much flare, she tolled a bell and marked the party to their fate while preparing a spell in her right hand.
One toll for Ismark to his death for private matters concerning her Dark Lord. Another toll from her Master as a greeting to the party. He hoped they would prove "interesting." Or else.
She lifted her hand over the open stairwell, and a massive blast of transformation magic engulfed the house. Shaking each piece of furniture, item and decoration down to the floor boards. Weary, she falls over exhausted - only for a ceremonial suit of armor to gracefully grab her, with the precision and skill of an animated object.
On the second level, other armored plate-mail suits awoke and sprang to attack.
In the hunters den, the stuffed wolves are now all too real. Will our heroes survive the evening in THE DURST MANSION?
