Ryan Reynolds, who portrayed the character in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” has been expected to star for many years, although no deal is in place.

The guy who directed that short that got everyone excited is going to direct the film, so there's a chance this won't suck.
As for Reynolds, I like the guy, but honestly, the film doesn't need him. Deadpool is hideously disfigured, and wears a mask all the time. Reynolds has great comedic timing and is perfect for the role, but the studio will be trying to show his face too much.
Fox debuted Deadpool (ish) in 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ where Ryan Reynolds played the character as a wise-cracking mercenary with a couple of swords and a bad attitude. At the climax of the film, though, creative license (and some truly awful makeup effects) turned Reynolds into a mute martial artists with giant swords coming out of his arms. Because that’s what you think of when you think of Deadpool: A guy who doesn’t talk with huge sword claws.

I just merged two threads, in case the conversation reads funny.
A little early in the process to be saying it'll be rated R. Not saying it won't end up being, but they haven't even finished filming it yet, much less editing it.

This vid was released the same day I made the post but I didn't find the vid until now.
Apparently they showed a teaser trailer at Comic Con today and it was ridiculously well received. More so than anything else according to reports. Yes, more than BvS.
