I've heard what Nico is saying is true. He does want D and D isn't Luka's strong point.

However, I have also heard that Luka is due a 5yr, $340M extension this summer and the Mavs front office was split on it. Luka is simply a natural marvel. He's this good and doesn't train in the offseason. He's routinely overweight.

FYI, only 4 players in the 80 year history of the NBA have the stats that Luka has through 7 years: him, Oscar Robinson, Wilt Chamberlin, and Kareem.

The big winner here is Luka. First, he's one of those guys who are driven by what they perceive as slights, ala Jordan. Second, his new teammate is the world's premier physical trainer. Lebron's health and stamina over his 20 or so seasons is unmatched.

Except he loses that Super Max contract possibility. No idea what it is instead of $340M, though. Guess he'll have to go back to clipping coupons.

He does, correct. You think he's not going to try and put 100 on the Mavericks every time he plays them?

He may be onto something here. The Cavs played the Mavs last night and scored an NBA record 50 points in the 1st quarter and had 91 by halftime.

He genuinely thinks they're a title contender right now. I guess if you make the playoffs, you are, but this team isn't beating the Thunder, Cavs, or Celtics.

Simmons shared a conspiracy theory about this Luka trade, and it's pretty interesting. As he said, "I have no notes."

The new owners of the Dallas Mavericks made their money in Vegas casinos. The NBA is trying to get a team in Vegas. Step one of moving a franchise is to get the fans to hate you.

Remind me in 10 years?

Also, is Rob Polinka, GM of the Lakers, the biggest piece of shit in the league? Nico is his friend, and Rob talked him out of letting other teams know Luka was available AND talked him down from a larger trade (more players and picks) that was originally on the table. The entire sports world now thinks Nico is the dumbest GM who made the worst trade in league history. Rob destroyed Nico's career. Even if this a part of a conspiracy to move the team, Nico will be the patsy they blame for all the bad moves and he'll be fired during the move.

The universe sometimes has a great sense of humor.

After trading away a generational superstar for nothing, the Mavs played their new toy, Anthony Davis. In his first game he proved his worth and had a monster night. That lasted right up until he got hurt and is out for 2 months.

Now one of their backups that replaced him is out for 6 weeks.

Are we seeing a "Luka curse" ala "the curse of the Bambino"?

Fresh off of trading away a generational talent to get nothing in return, the Dallas Mavericks are now raising ticket prices with the excuse of "investments in the team".

FYI, trading away their future Hall of Famer saved the team money.

Just gonna put this here again...

Mavs lose Irving for the season, which basically ends their season.

Their new owner is probably secretly celebrating.

The next article for me was:

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/441 ... ons-called

I don't watch much NBA. Close to zero. But ^this 1000 times. Traveling gives you a HUGE advantage at the basket. Yes, fewer points will be scored. But right now, it's frustrating watching people cheat and get away with it. Either call it, or change the rules saying you don't have to dribble in the paint.

Traveling in the NBA has been a complaint of fans for years.

Some of these actually get called. Not included is everything James Harden and one of Kendrick Perkins taking nine (9!!!) steps and not getting called.

What the Mavs could have gotten for Luka.

This is ESPN rubbing salt in the wound and makes one wonder how the Mavs GM still has a job.

I genuinely don't watch the NBA, but this show's clips are endlessly entertaining:

In the first games of the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs, all the favorites lost at home. (One series has not started yet.)

I wonder what the odds were on that.

Yeah, they're a team that lives and dies by the 3.
The Celtics are just the second team in the past six years to shoot 25% or worse in the first two games of a playoff series, joining the 2021 Atlanta Hawks in their East finals loss to the Bucks.
They're also missing their C.

And oddly, Vegas still has them as the favorite.

BTW, the Timberwolves losing to the Warriors means all four home favorites lost the opening game of their series.
