I don't mind, long as they don't go overboard.
Too much of it's in secret now. My nephew discovered once he got into high school that he really enjoyed reading the classics after they were assigned. Considering how high he scored in science and math, would he have even been exposed to these?

How many famous people did poorly in their fields because they were visionaries and did not conform to the "norms" of their chosen fields? Where would Einstein have ended up or Fred Smith in common core?

That's the overboard bit. Taking away all electives would be a stupid idea. I don't see anything wrong with more specialization, though.

Where would Einstein have ended up...

Still working in a patent office, where he did a lot of his shit.

I don't have a problem with specialization. I have a problem with the system (ie, the government) deciding what you're going to specialize in. Here in TN, that's one of the things they're trying to do with common core.

The biggest problem I have with Common Core, aside from the asinine way they are trying to teach things, is that the individual parents have very little control over it. When a local schoolboard is making educational decisions, it's usually a bimonthly meeting where the local citizens can show up and ask them if they are all fucking stupid, or what? When a state is calling the shots, a person can actually make a difference when it comes to influencing the next election. When it is DC you might as well just go fuck yourself while swallowing the cum they promised they would not shoot in your mouth, because it will cost you $100k just to get in the door to talk to the guy who takes the "campaign donations."

Obama being bipartisan.
"With this budget," he said, "Republicans are turning their back on the middle class."

John Boehner earns his surname with an equally vapid and unproductive response.
"This budget is a clear sign this president has given up on any efforts to address our serious fiscal challenges that are undermining the future of our kids and grandkids," Boehner warned in a statement.

Fucking midterm elections.

Attorney General has thin skin.
Holder was testifying before the House Judiciary Committee when Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, began pressing him for documents in a separate investigation. Gohmert brought up an apparent sore spot, referencing the 2012 House vote finding Holder in contempt of Congress.

"I realize that contempt is not a big deal to our attorney general, but it is important that we have proper oversight," Gohmert said.

A visibly annoyed Holder said: "You don't want to go there, buddy." Leaning back in his chair, he added, "You don't want to go there, okay?"

IRS employees told people who they ought to vote for.
According to the report, the employee told the callers a chant based on Obama’s last name that touted his campaign and urged them to reelect him. The report does not say where the employee was located, but says the Office of Special Counsel is seeking “significant disciplinary action” against him.

Sadly, I think the President's party is only becoming a mirror of society in the "pissing and moaning" department.

Student suspended for telling other students the Common Core testing was optional.

http://www.foxnews.com/us....estnews

We have already discussed planning a vacation for the week of next year's CC testing, just to be difficult. The school WANTS my kid to take it, because he brings test score averages up.

Tell 'em to fuck off. Or tell your kid to tank the test on purpose.

I honestly don't understand why Dems are so gung-ho about giving up internet control.

http://www.nationaljournal.com/tech....0140410

Are they getting paid off, or something? I don't see the appeal.

Because Dems look at anything with "international committee" in it as being a utopic ideal. Since the U.S. is evil, turning any power over to an international body can only be a good thing.

Yeah, there's that, but.... I don't think any of them rally give a shit beyond what they can profit by it. I don't think any of them have even the morals to be honestly pro-global-harmony-whatever. There's got to be money in it somewhere.

He warned that if the U.S. gives up its role overseeing Internet address functions, that could allow Russia or China to seize power.

Because your cybersecurity is a fucking joke.

I disagree. I think the main reason the Dems are so dangerous is that they really do believe the bullshit they claim to. Not that the ones in Congress aren't ALSO interested in the money, mind you. But if money were the only reason they were in the game, they'd be Republicans.
