Cake, ask your peeps to friend me and Gordo so we can grab a few achievements that require the use of Steam friends.

After you guys left, the next map was a blast. To give you an idea of what we had going on, I had 89 kills, 20-something buildings destructions, 8 or 9 each of Dominations and Revenges, I was ubered about 20 times, etc.

The map, whose name I forget, is the one with 5 control points and the middle one is on a bridge. It might be the longest map in the game in terms of size.

Anyway, the point of contention is usually that bridge and it was tonight initially, but our team was pushed back to a single point where we held one hell of a defensive stance and eventually pushed our way back out to the bridge. That's where the game stalemated for quite a long time.

If you're wondering how I was able to rack up those numbers, it's because they added 20 minutes or so. Nobody ever won the map either. The admins finally just switched it as the stalemate seemed to be going on forever.

One guy that stood out on that map was "Your Best Friend" who played a medic the whole time. He was pretty good about using his mic to try and coordinate stuff. Particularly the use of ubers. He had a good strategy of running in before the pyro so that he'd get shot at by the turrets we were rushing while I could walk right up and blow it away.

I actually heard very little chatter while playing. One guy was going on about something and doing a bunch of swearing. But I tuned him out. The server was fun until that last series of rounds. The teams were so stacked that it took all the fun out and I was ready to be done. I just don't understand why people enjoy playing when the teams are so out of balance. 75% of the other team was outscoring our best player. We were dominated and pretty much kept inside our spawn point the whole time. The server kept switching people, but they would immediately go to spectator, and then rejoin the team they were just pulled from. Fucking stupid.

I'm not giving up on the server. . . but so far, I'm not impressed.

I don't understand the need for Teamspeak. Biggest pain in the ass of the night.

And I don't mind the stacked teams so much. Playing a better opponent forces me to play better. Plus, when the fight is right outside our spawn point, I don't need to travel for 90 seconds before I get backstabbed by the spy. I can just get backstabbed immediately and then respawn.

One thing about TS is, I could hear all of you loud and clear. It works well. About 30% of the people in game are too quiet, choppy, or something else. Plus, if we do end up on different teams, we can all still talk to each other. It makes playing with my friends more enjoyable. I'm not playing this game for the other people, I'm there for you guys!! I didn't like not being able to talk to Leisher all night, even though he was on the other team. I haven't multied something with Leisher in like, 12 years or something. He finally shows up for something and he's just some guy on the other team. I dunno. I still think TS is a must.

Last night, I turned on my ingame comms so I could hear people, but disabled my talking so they could not hear me. Worked well cause I could still talk to you guys and hear the few helpful things coming from other team mates.

And ya, I totally saw you getting stabbed in the back repeatedly way better by the end of the round than in the beginning. There was real improvement. I, on the other hand, couldn't quite get the hang of it. I was getting stabbed, suckily, the whole night.

I don't mind being on the losing team repeatedly. As long as it's a somewhat close game. I don't mind being the underdog, cause playing better people DOES help you improve. But I was spending more time dead, waiting to respawn than I was alive playing the game. And that's stupid, not fun, and it pisses me off. Had that last map not been so lopsided, I would have kept playing. But, playing with assholes ain't fun, so I was done in the hopes that next time, that won't happen again.

I had the exact opposite experience. I can always hear people in game loud and clear, and the TS was too soft, choppy, and the voices have a weird electronic distortion. This was improved when in between maps I minimized and got into TS settings and boosted output.... then I could at least understand what peeps were saying. But all-in-all, I've never really had a bad in-game chat experience. I imagine, with the servers on which I play, those peeps get booted.

Also, I have different button-to-activate-voice buttons, between TS and in-game. Last night if there was a sentry to destroy, I was telling the entire team. If I wanted to comment on Randy's ubering skills, it was on private TS.

I suppose there is value to having our own private comm channel, it was just, seriously, the biggest pain-in-the-ass of the night, for me. Hopefully now that the wrinkle is ironed out it will be more seamless.

Also, why aren't we using the DTMan TS server that has now been running stably for years? The old excuse was that it would be too hard to get everyone to punch in a new IP address a single time. Still have the same excuse?

Cake, is Mysterydog one of your peeps? He friended me last night.

And you can't judge any server based on weekend action. Most of the people on it last night weren't regulars. Gordo and I play a lot there on weeknights and I can pretty much tell you the names of 80% of the people we'll see.

Personally, I didn't see the people doing the spectating thing and then rejoining, but I don't really pay attention to that stuff. Isn't it true that they move folks off the bottom of the scoring list anyway and/or people who just got on the server?

I'll work on getting people on your TS Gordon. Didn't know if that would create lag for you though.

Might want to try a test where you hold both your buttons down, and we see which one we hear first.

Leisher, there was one spy, Oobah Noobah or something like that, that was having a field day with my back. He was in the middle of their board as far as score. He was switched to our side no less than 3 times in 10 minutes, and every time, he'd switch back immediately. It seemed to me, that the server would try to exchange a middle scorer, with a low scorer every time.

And yes, Mysterydog is with us. So is:

Brannigan's Law
Hunter
Basilisk

Does "AimBot" exist in this game, or is that an urban legend?

Also, on the server I was just playing, got killed a few times by a particular scout who, in spite of taking Heavy Weapon fire in the chest for a good 2 heartbeats, still had full health when he killed me with a single shotgun blast. Fishy.

I would bet that there is an AimBot out there for the game. No proof though cause I don't research them. If you build it, they will AimBot it.

When I see things like that, I normally check the person's score. If they aren't dominating, I chalk it up to lag, bug, whatever. I don't assume cheating unless they have a questionably high score. I guess they could be a subtle cheater and pace themselves though.

Also saw a sentry gun shooting people through a wall the other day, but I'm chalking that one up to an inadvertent bug. Never saw it again.

Yeah, never heard of him before. Definitely not a FNF regular.

Saw someone doing the same on a random server this afternoon and my team, which was the winning team, was openly mocking him.

I will say that my team that night was very active on chat. They were discussing plans, coordinating attacks, spotting sentries, etc. When you've got stuff like that going on, if the other team isn't doing it, the game is already over. I've been on both sides of that a lot and the results are always the same. In a related bit, the most common chat I hear on the losing side is usually someone suggesting a plan or bitching about where we need help and then someone else saying "Ok coach" very sarcastically. The suggestion never gets followed and we lose.

That's one thing I love about TF2, you need teamwork. Solo stuff looks great and might pad stats, but it doesn't win. That's why you'll commonly see me running headlong into a group of enemies with my pyro. Yes, I'm going to die, but I know I'm going to do damage leaving them vulnerable for my team. It's also why when I get ubered I'm aiming for sentries, dispensors, and teleporters instead of trying to get a huge body count.

As for the cheating stuff, I did a little research Friday afternoon from a link I saw on youtube. I was there watching a few videos of TF2 and saw a video of someone cheating in game. So I know the stuff does exist. Anyway, the link took me to the actual site where I could buy the cheat software. I didn't, obviously, but I did note that they had a "Status" page that showed which anti-cheating software could detect their stuff. VAC was the only one listed under "Detected". I assume that since I found this site, Valve has too, and they've probably put in something to detect that software. The software itself seemed to start as a radar, not sure what else it did. I don't think it made anyone invincible or anything. Might've helped with aimed though.

What's a "Cakedaddy"?

The weeknight FNF server is just fucking brilliant. Best multi I've ever played with strangers involved. (I still think nothing beats our ridiculous Red Alert, TA, and Duke Nukem matches.)

I also figured out some of the instakills. I knew they were in the game, but never put it together before until tonight...it's the crits.

Every player has a random chance to do critical damage at a random(?) moment. The soldiers were the most obvious as their crit rockets are blue. However, tonight I noticed that the weapon fire of a heavy changes if they're shooting a crit.

I think I'm halfway to Pyromancer (1000000 damage with a pyro).

I checked out the FNF forums at http://www.fnfonline.com today for shits and giggles.

All the usual suspects are on there and you get a pretty good sense of how they run their server.

These are the folks that Cake needs to see online.

I also went ahead and registered there. You never know when it might be handy to be chummier with the peeps who run that server.

Gordo, go register and say hello at FNFOnline. I did so earlier in the week and tonight I threw some friend invites out there when I was done playing and was promptly invited to join the Steam group FNF. It didn't add anything to my friend list, but with 115 members, some of those "friend" achievements should be easier to get. You'll need those to get the better weapons and such.

Good games tonight.
