The second Obama term
Meh, it's completely obsessed with employment statistics and ignores the fact that entrepreneurship is at an all-time high. There is a large number of people making a living on places like Etsy, eBay, YouTube, etc, and I think these new "job" levels are just an adjustment to that new normal because none of that gets captured in the old way of measuring. We're still going through the fourth revolution and this is just one of the many things that will be permanently different.

Take however many people were making a living busking, then multiply it by at least 100K. That's how many people make a living off ebay and amazon. Consider the "VHS films never officially released on DVD" market.GORDON wrote:Yeah, but aside from those 14 people...TPRJones wrote: There is a large number of people making a living on places like Etsy, eBay, YouTube, etc....

I... need some evidence that large numbers of people... tens, hundreds of thousands, make a "living" off of ebay and amazon as their sole source of income. Enough people that they would affect unemployment numbers if they were factored in, and enough money that they were not on any kind of assistance at the same time.

I don't know about ebay or Amazon, but I can speak on some other people making money online. I could list the names or websites of 83 for you that I am personally aware of (mostly because I follow their works online). And I am 100% certain I am not following the works of anywhere near a measurable percentage of those people making their money through such means.
From what I can find online, as of last year the top 1,000 YouTubers were making $23,000 per month or more (the top 25 all make more than $1mil a year). I would guess there's at least ten times that number making that per year, which I would consider enough money to make it more than just a hobby income, but still it is not counted as a job. And that's just one website.
There's also plenty of webcomics, musicians, and other artists making a decent living through digital means. We're living in an interesting age of digital patronage, and there are a lot of artists doing quite well for themselves. I don't mean a few dozen, I mean tens of thousands. Each one known only by 1,000 True Fans, but that's all it takes now to make a good living doing art or music or comedy or what have you. And all not yet big enough to have decided to incorporate are "unemployed".
Eventually the feds will find ways to count and classify this stuff, but until then the verifiable numbers are scattered far and wide.

Obama administration admitted on Sunday that thousands of peeps who signed up for Obamacare on the website.... didn't.

I wonder why they would release this kind of info on a Sunday... it's almost like they want to bury it. They must have only figured it out this morning or late last night after everyone was asleep.

The administration said it has fixed more than 70 software glitches over the past several weeks related to 834 forms.
Holy fuck. I have to meet this QA team.

All the people that were expecting to be all "Obama gave me free healthcare, yay!" are instead shouting "I have to pay WHAT?!" On the bright side if the health care industry does completely collapse in this mess, that would probably be a good thing. Whatever arises to replace it is likely to be a massive improvement over both the current mess and the old mess we had before.
Just don't get sick until about 2020.

Sometimes I think the broken-ness of Obamacare is a feature, to make everybody say "fuckit, I'd rather just have socialized medicine."
Then sometimes, I think there's some kind of 5th column sabotage at work.
