The headline threw me until I saw that it was a CNN poll.

Duh....
The truth, which no one wanted or wants to hear, is that communism is as American as apple pie. Communism is a form of American liberalism, or progressivism. It is not, as so many anti-communists liked to suggest, an exotic foreign import. When imported from exotic lands, it's because we exported it there in the first place. In America it may speak with a Russian accent; in Russia, it speaks with an American accent.

By the 1930s, communism with a strong Protestant flavor had become the dominant religion of American high society - the wealthiest and most fashionable Americans.

Maybe.
Some threatening letters simply contain ground castor beans, resulting in a positive field test for ricin without the concentrated poison. Results from full laboratory tests are expected in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Still a crime, and I think the article mentions that they already have a suspect.

Any fucking idiot can grow a castor beans, grind them up, and sprinkle them to set off a positive ricin test.
Other senators were made aware of the Wicker letter during a briefing Tuesday evening on the bombing in Boston. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., said that the person who sent Wicker the letter writes often to elected officials.

Sounds like the suspect may indeed be a fucking idiot, which is fortunate.

Does anyone else find it hilarious that Obama is ranting that the NRA lied about the failed gun control bill while Obamacare is sitting out there like the biggest elephant in the room ever?

How the guy can say shit like that and not break character is beyond me. He deserves an Oscar.

This legislation he is pushing is impressive, considering it would not have stopped any of the recent school shootings.

Legislation hasn't been about "stopping things" in a long time. It's all about "doing more," even if "more" isn't needed, practical, useful, or even close to a solution. Even if "more" causes more problems. Especially if it causes more problems, because then ... more legislation.

Yeah, I like my local school system. They sit back and let government officials be retarded, and take actual useful steps to keep their campus safe.

We had a lockdown just last week when some homeless dude with a backpack wandered into the campus from the street (which is strange considering it is out in the corn fields, and there are maybe 20 houses within a 1 mile radius). My kid described him as a "hobo."

"Why Obama is impotent."

Since the legislation did not pass, anyone think he will just start making executive orders, like he has done in the past?

He might try, but then he's guaranteed to get precisely 0 votes from any Congressional Republican afterwards, regardless of the issue. I'm far more concerned about background checks for pressure cookers, ball bearings, and nails.

Republicans bitch out HHS Department about lack of info for Obamacare. Oh wait, I meant "Democratic Senate Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus" instead of "Republicans."

Fucking priceless.
FDA: Give us more funding because we're "a bargain" and we provide invaluable services.
DEA holding unused prescription drug turn-in day.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.

Doesn't prescription drug abuse outstrip street drugs now? Isn't that an indication that both these above agencies should be gutted and dismantled?

Friend of mine posted on facebook today that the NRA, which is totally a tool of the gun manufacturers, bullied the senate into not passing background checks. I was giving him such a hard time about this that he deleted the post. So in case you see this logic somewhere else, here's what you point out:

1. All new gun sales go through federal firearms license (FFL) dealers
2. Which means that they require a background check, and have since the Brady Bill in the 90s
3. So...why do the manufacturers care?

Say hello to more taxes.
White House spokesman Jay Carney says the Senate bill would level the playing field for small businesses and brick-and-mortar retailers that are undercut by online companies.

Funny. I think that everyone in Congress should redistribute their assets and resources to their constituents, you know, to level the playing field.

Carney says that governors and mayors have overwhelmingly told the White House the bill is needed. He says states are losing out on revenue that could go to <s>education</s> corruption, <s>law enforcement</s> kickbacks, <s>infrastructure investments</s> bribes and <s>health care</s> pork-barrel legislation.
