Pyro doesn't get a lot of love most of the time. Peeps think that is the class people play who can't play.
know, that always cracks me up. The existence of the engineer alone proves that argument to be complete bullshit.
Yeah, no skill whatsoever needed:
-Main weapon has the shortest range in the game by a TON.
-The airburst requires timing to reflect enemy rockets.
-Third most hit points.
-Middle of the road speed. (Important when you think about the range of the flamethrower.)
-The only class that needs to have the ability to circle strafe SGs and the only one that can take out a level 2 or 3 SG by doing so.
The truth is that the pyro can single-handedly defend a CP, stop/stall an enemy rush, knock down SGs, circle strafe heavies, easily identify and burn out spies, etc. The class pisses off a lot of folks because of the power of the class, thus they take shots at it.
In all honesty, I see the pyro in the top three classes for actual FPS skills needed to play it well. I put the bottom three as Engineer, Spy, and...well I'm not sure on the third. It all depends on what a person calls "skill".
Is it more skill to play a class that moves or one that doesn't? One that has a ton of power or one that doesn't? One that's quick or one that's slow? Etc.
As for tonight's games...
I knew Granary was going to knock you out tonight. You joined right when it started and I began laughing. It ended one round after you left too and we went to Dustbowl which is fantastic.
I thought FNF was a ton better tonight in terms of teams. Granary was really odd in that one team would roll, then the other, then it'd switch back. The Dustbowl level was one of the closest battles I've ever seen.
In fact, I was on red and early on we had 4 SGs blocking blue's escape from that first corner. They knocked our SGs down in one of the best examples of team work I've ever seen on any server. They worked over the SGs they could hit and then come around the corner with three consecutive ubers. I mean back to back to back. They were supported by soldiers and snipers doing nothing but hitting the sentries. I was really impressed.
I saw you still on when I left and noticed Cake jumped onto TF2 at some point. What server were you guys on?

If we're on tomorrow night join it long enough for me to join so that I can bookmark it. I keep looking for it, but I can't find it in my list.
Had you said something, I would've jumped with you, but I thought you left for the night.

Just tired of getting steamrolled those last 3 maps on Granary that I played.
When I left about 14 people were still playing. Blue team, 5 out of 7 had like 70-90 points, and no one on red had over 50. I didn't see anyone trying to balance, so hell with it.

Funny story, the other night Gordon and I were on a team with Sprat who is an exceptional sniper. Were we cheering that we wouldn't have to worry about getting headshot over and over, which incidentally, I didn't get killed a sniper once on that map.
Anyway, we won the map and moved onto the next where teams get rearranged. Sprat wound up on the opposite team from me, ditto for Bad Horse, also a pretty good sniper. As soon as the level started I ran out and BAM! Sprat headshot me. I then went up the hill and BAM! Bad Horse headshoots me. I respawned again, dodged a pyro and ran right into Sprat's view again.
I swear I'm sniper bait.

Heh, I don't even recall shooting you.... when that map open you only have about 15 hectic seconds before the pyro and spy hits the backfield and starts killing the snipers and engineers. A smart sniper needs to be wary after that, until we have to move back to the next sniping position.
ALSO... I remember this now... before that round started I said, "OK everybody... on this map Leisher is typically a pyro and gets to the backfield as soon as possible." Sprat said something like "I'm on it..." But then it turns out you were a medic, hehe.
Also, I am proud to say, that Sprat and I were both snipers, but when I looked at the score the first time I got killed I was leading the pack with 9 points, and Sprat had 5. As you would say, I feel like I should get an achievement just for that.

Tonight was a good night on FNF. First I've seen in a long time. Won more rounds than lost, but not by much.
Oh, and I was totaly catching up with Tas in points on our team. I don't remember how many he had when I joined, but he was ahead of me. When I got to 80, and he had 81, he all of the sudden said something about work and was gone. Hmmmm. Coincidence?
And Horse and I were in a sniper duel for a minute. We were both shooting and missing. Over and over. Finally, I hit him. I was glad.

Then I didn't see much more of him, because he and cake got into sniper duel fest, and I just kept seeing them kill each other.
Fun night.
My team kept wanting you dead up in that window, but the way you were positioning yourself only a sliver of your hat was visible, and I couldn't get a piece of you.
Then I shot Cake twice while he was mid-air as a scout... that's always funny. Scouts are easiest to snipe when they are jumping. The double-jump trips me up occasionally, but it is still easier than when they are on foot.
And by now the cart had moved to a point where there were other targets to deal with than a sniper up in the window, so that was that.

Nice to see my l33t skillz warrant a mention on opposing teams. hehe
And yeah, I've been working on my heavy and medic achievements. I bust out the pyro when things start to get dicey or whenever I feel like there's not enough people on fire.

I honestly think you're in Sprat's league, but I think on certain maps he picks better positions than you do. His positions are usually better defended and make it harder to spot him.

Well, to be fair, you're not on every night. Last night was particularly good though, and was even commented on elsewhere. Most of the heavy hitters were out and everyone seemed to be playing well.

Earlier in the night, I was on that server running the "Orange" series of maps. A guy named xoc was sniping our team and EVERY SHOT was a headshot. Now if you've never played the map, understand that from one end to the other, characters are nearly unrecognizable due to the distance. This guy was as far back as possible. I jumped my pyro onto a ledge, then jumped again, an unusual move, and bam. I ran up behind his sniper at one point to the range where I actually could flame him, he spun around and headshot me that quick. I called him out on it by saying that "you rock the aimbot". He laughed and said no. Then, all of a sudden, he became a very, very average sniper. He was hitting folks in the body, getting killed more often, etc.
I hate cheaters.
In related TF2 news, the official blog states that the team was away working on Left4Dead, more on that in another chain, and were now back and getting to work on the next class update. I would bet we'll know which class sometime in October? I really hope it's the engineer.
Here's a little blast from the past for TF2 fans, these pictures are from the original design of the game: The original TF2.

I have bad nights and average nights, but sometimes I just hit the zone and can't miss.
And yeah, every now and then I get sniped, I get the zoom-in on the sniper, and I still have no idea where they were hidden. I don't yet know all the dark nooks and crannies.

Last night's fun on that Badwater/Gold Rush server was a good night to be taking my break on... I had the top score, as a sniper. Now I get to let my sniper skills deteriorate for two weeks at Disney.
I was on FNF earlier but the teams were uneven again, so I quit after about 5 steamrolls. Then Cake and TPR joined me on the other server, and that was fun.

The only problem with you getting high score as sniper is. . . we never got the cart to the enemy base. We had too many shooters and not enough pushers. Everyone was playing for high score, and not team victory. I was sad. We held the other team off really well on defence, but they managed to get all the objectives a couple of times. We never did, giving them the over all victory. My team was not a team. . . There were alot of 'me's in my team. I was sad.
It was alot of fun and people were good and I did good and stuff was good. Just no victories. Which made me sad. Good server though. Just needs less 'me's. Not ME, as in me, but me's as in not team players, of course. I mean, servers can't have enough of ME, as in, me. But, I digress.
I was third on our team, and I rushed the cart, tried to take out sentries, and did other team stuff. And there were alot of times I would die, and then a sniper would take out the guy that killed me. I felt like I was just holding the bad guys still for the snipers to boost their scores. I was sad.
And yes, we need snipers. But not 4 of them. Especially at 1 minute left and the cart at the last stage of the journey. The team had alot of good players, but it still sucked. We never had any medics either. There were so many times that I was the only one. And often, I couldn't find a heavy or pyro to hook up with. Everyone was sniper, demo or soldier. But everyone had really hight scores!!
And doesn't having the high score on the losing team just make you king of the losers?!?
And it may sound like it. . . but I'm not just bashing you. In fact, you did do good. But you are the only one from last night that I can talk to. So, you get to hear it. We had alot of talent, but no team. We should have won every round cause our team had higher scores most of the time. But, no team work, so we kept losing. Which is not as frustrating as having stacked teams, but still frustrating. For me at least. You and I would have done good as a medic/heavy team.
FNF added many new maps, which can be voted on, but are not in rotation.
One of note: Rock. Remember the prison map from TFC where you had to get the key and take it to the gas chamber? This is that map.
Another one is called Meridian and is a territory map. It's set on a tropical island and whomever made it put some work into it as it's beautiful.
Egypt you've seen.
There are a couple others like Badlands Classic, Vertigo, and Labor.
I'm up to 91 of 132 achievements.

I took the time off to play HL and to make sure I don't get burned out. I was sort of annoyed with two evenings I was on where the server was full of dipshits.
I'm offline tonight to watch the Steelers and tomorrow for poker, but I'll be back Tuesday night.
