Team Fortress 2 - Might as well give it its own thread.
Every time I hit a bad guy with it, I get +3 to my health. I can't think of any negatives at the moment, but truth be told I didn't use the regular needle gun all that often so it is hard for me to compare.
I used it a few times last night.
It was funny.... I finished in the top 3 of a map last night for the first time ever, and I was playing a medic the entire time.
Also, the map that I had a hard time downloading... by the time I got in, the bad guys were about to take our last checkpoint out of the 5, so I jumped in as a Heavy. I have NEVER had half as many kills as I had on that map... I honestly suspect there was a glitch. I was walking through those tunnels mowing down 5 guys in a row and STILL pulling back long enough to heal up. I mentioned this in voice at one point, someone said, "Hey, don't complain, just go with it."

The negative to your new syringe gun is that it doesn't do crits.
The other medic upgrades are:
-The upgraded healing gun no longer makes a player invulnerable, but rather gives the 100% critical hits.
-The upgraded saw charges your healing gun not sure what the negative is...
If you go to "Character Setup and Info", that's where you can decide which weapons you want to equip. It'll also give descriptions of them and their strengths and weaknesses.
You're a good medic, but we don't have our teamwork down yet. There were a few times last night when I was thinking, "He must think I'm nuts or something." I need to get a better headset so that I can talk to you about what I'm plotting, particularly when it comes to getting ubered.
The main thing I've learned about the medic is that the two classes who are your best friends are the Heavy and the Pyro. Nobody else makes for a great uber rush. The soldier is too slow and is nothing more than a sniper with explosive bullets. The demo's ammo doesn't make him a good rush class. But the pyro and heavy are made for up close and personal action. The whole key is to prioritize targets: Sentries first always. After that, it's the choice of the guy shooting. I usually try to set any opposing player in range on fire as I move towards the sentry gun(s). After they go down, I'll work on whomever is closest or even whatever if, for example, a teleporter exit is there.
That map you had trouble downloading is a great map, but teamwork is critical there more so than any other map. That's the map I was talking about the night we played with that one guy, Cakedaddy. Right after you left, that map loaded and we played it for a looooong time. I had just under 90 kills and nobody ever actually won.
Anyway, your team was awesome last night in terms of defense. You guys would not surrender that second point. I did what I could with my pyro, but it's tough as that map is open with long hallways. Such a map is not made for a pyro, but IS designed for a heavy. Yes, heavies excel on that map. Last night a lot of your kills were on me. I know I had you listed as a Nemesis at least once.
In contrast, two maps later whose name I forget, but always ends up with one team holding a single capture point in their base is designed more for pyros. There are lots of little turns, short hallways, multiple angles to get to everything allowing for ambushes, etc. I had my best start on any level ever in the first round of that level. I came out of the gate with 8 kills, 0 deaths, and 1 or 2 destructions, and 1 capture (the winning capture). I've had better streaks, I've had more kills, but I've never played what was essentially a perfect round before. I was pretty geeked.
Oh, I also got a great screenshot of you last night on Well. I was heading into your base through the front right door (my view) and as soon as it opened you were standing there with a medic. I didn't stand a chance. Anyway, for some reason the screenshot was pretty cool, so I grabbed it. I'll dig it up later.
I will be on tonight and tomorrow. It'd be great if some of the other peeps around here would join us.

There are times when, as a medic, I have an uber ready, but I am waiting for the right time. But then I start taking damage.... having an uber ready is a lot bigger loss if I die before I use it than if I use it prematurely.Leisher wrote:You're a good medic, but we don't have our teamwork down yet. If my target starts taking damage, I drop it... in fact, I have the award for "Dropping an uber less than a second before your target takes killing damage." But I also need to drop the uber if my less-armored medic starts taking damage.

The last map I played last night, you and I were on opposite teams again. My team's teamwork.... it was the worst I've ever seen. The other guys were crosstalking in chat, but... they just sucked. The middle point, on the bridge in the warehouse with the railroad tracks (Well?)... I am approaching it as a heavy, "In the warehouse, unopposed. I could use backup." Got nothing. "That's me capturing the point, unopposed... could use backup." Got nothing. "Hey, that's me that just captured the middle point... no one here yet, but I could use backup." Nothing. I stood there defending another 15 seconds before an enemy scout showed up circle strafing me, and he took the point back for red (or blue, whatever). ANY other backup, we could have kept the middle point and pushed you guys back. I quit soon after that, because those people were retarded.Leisher wrote:In contrast, two maps later whose name I forget, but always ends up with one team holding a single capture point in their base is designed more for pyros. Talking about ubers:
Yeah, an uber is a terrible thing to waste. I understand hitting them when you feel like if you don't it'll be wasted. That being said, I think working out certain tactics would help us out.
For example, on the payload maps (I really need to learn their names) there are certain tactics that would work great for the initial uber out of the gate. For the level when you're attacking and it's wide open with all the gates visible to one another, I like to get ubered and rush straight up the hill on the right, dropping over the edge where a lot of engies like to stick sentries. Then move towards the house that overlooks everything. You and I did that last night and essentially forced the entire red team back to the second point.
On another payload map, also as an attacker, there is the double gate on the right of the spawn and then a single one on the left down a hallway. A good tactic there would be to let another uber or whatever charge out first, then follow a second or two behind and go through the tunnel to the left of the big house there. Hitting the uber once we got to the back of the house would work as it'd allow the pyro or heavy to tear up the sentries that normally are there or in the back of the house.
As for the idiots, a team filled with great players can be run over if they're not working together or have the proper mix of classes. I'm sure I scream at the monitor as much as you do.
I played a level over the weekend and there were 6 freaking pyros on the team. I switched to engineer just because I knew the team didn't need 6 pyros.

I think the big blue dot is the blinking arrow sign for your team that shows you which way to go.
Tonight, after you and the admins left, a player got on named "Joey". My team, I had a lot of regulars, called him out as a cheater using an aim bot. He beat everyone else's score by 50. He either was the greatest player I've ever seen (using demo, soldier, and sniper) or he was cheating. The guy never missed, ever.
He had shots off before people turned corners. He seemed to shot a lot of crits. Everyone was complaining that other odd things were happening too. For example, I swear that I was at the last point as an engie and the only guy who was labeled as a Nemesis was Joey. I shot at him down in the valley and he was a soldier. He disappeared for a second and I turned to look at the payload and the nemesis tag was now down there floating over a demo's head?
How hard would it be for a Valve to create logs of the games on the various servers (or if there could be too many, just "official" or Valve protected servers) and look for inconsistencies in damage dealt? If a player is found to be cheating, they get warned once. The second time they get banned from Steam.
I'm sure there are tons of obstacles there, but I've got to believe someone could create a better way to stop cheaters.
Oh, and FYI, our team still won the map Joey was on. He also never said a word and left immediately following the round.
Had another funny moment after you were gone where a newbie (had to be) was on bitching CONSTANTLY about how people weren't dying for him. It soon became clear that he didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Here's a reenactment:
Idiot: "That's nice rockets don't do damage, huh?"
Idiot: "I shot that guy point blank and I died!"
Someone else: "He's a heavy, it takes more than one rocket."
Idiot: "Even so, it should've done some damage!"
I don't think he ever realized that his rocket is what killed him.
Where'd you find that screenshot? I'll post the one I have of you.

It was, if I recall, deep down the tree in the Steam folder on the c drive, in tf2, in "screenshots." Once I found it I just made a shortcut to that folder on my desktop.
Actually, here's the path:

Yeah, I've seen similar shit elsewhere. Also, notice how the offenders never seem to return.
Joey, whom I talked about previously, was there for the first time and we probably won't see him again. Ditto for the UFA (or whatever) guys.
Interesting to note that this always occurs on the weekends though. Stupid kids.

I will absolutely be on tonight, although I expect most servers to be jammed, at least early before the kiddies go to bed.

From the update page:Fixed a bug that resulted in players earning more crit chance bonus in large, single damage events than they are supposed to
I think that probably accounts for some of the strange deaths yes, but it still doesn't explain players who never missed or players who always seemed to know when you were behind them or coming around a corner.
I had a lot of fun last night playing a medic. I started off with the pyro, but was getting my ass handed to me on the new map. It's way too big with long runs for the pyro to be as effective as he is on smaller maps. Thus, I broke out the medic and earned the "First Do No Harm" achievement, which was pretty cool as that's a tough one to get.
The jury is still out for me on the arena maps. I can see it being a lot of fun, but the sitting out a round punishment is an odd design choice. I don't understand the logic of forcing players to become spectators. On top of that, I crashed out of game four times last night, 3 of which occurred at the beginning of an arena map.
I probably won't be on tonight, but I'll be back on tomorrow.
