Sinners (2025)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Getting good reviews.

Wanted to make a note here for you all though. You have to stick around for the midcredits scene. It's not just a scene. Apparently, if you leave before it, you don't actually see the end of the movie. I don't know what that means.

I know where the good reviews came from: People afraid to give a black movie that talks about black culture and history a bad review.

This was not a good movie. It was a vanity project.

Stack and Smoke are twin brothers, with a criminal history, who come to a small town to open a club for black people. Vampires show up and shit goes south.

The acting, direction, set pieces, effects, music, etc. are all fantastic. There isn't a single bad performance.

The problem is the script is a mess. It's all over the place and full of odd choices. It's also sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. The movie is over two hours long and nothing happens for the first hour. I checked the time and that's accurate. It's just all characterization and setup. Even when things do get going it's still slow.

Normally, I love characterization and setup, but something here just didn't click. I loved the characters, their interactions, and the quirks each is given, but again it's just all too slow. What Coogler attempted to do with the story didn't fit the overall movie.

There's a scene at the end that really showcases what I'm talking about. I won't give it away, but do you remember the immersion killing "all girls" scene in Avengers Endgame? It had that same forced feel.

It all just felt like so much good stuff wasted on a convoluted mess of a script.
