We have booked the most southern route possible, because we are doing this whole thing in a 2 door Accord Coupe.

Actually, we may have to play New Mexico by ear, it snowed in our stop after Austin, trying to avoid getting too close to the border while also avoiding the snow.

I'm very into Rust again at the moment.

I really like some of the changes they've made. The blueprints and housing are much better. The worst part of the game, imho, is the animals. Easily killed ones are too scarce, which is a problem because animal fat and cloth are critical items.

So I think the early game is a bit tougher.

Have you played with the turrets yet? Any cool new weapons?

I'm anxious to get a turret, but don't have one yet.

I can build explosives, but not C4.

I've gotten pretty far on just drops from locations. I have grabbed two air drops as well, but aside from weapons, nothing super cool.

I love how you can be completely on your own and max your building out. No more searching for blueprints for metal. You can get there by resource gathering.

I've had it open on my secondary PC all day while I'm building servers. Mainly just throwing things in the furnace.

Actually found a dupe item bug during lunch and tweeted Gary Newman about it.

The helicopters are an interesting touch. They patrol the map randomly and will kill your ass. They can be killed, but it takes effort.

They've done a TON to slow down folks from getting everything right out of the gate. I'm a big fan of that.

They also spread out treasure spawns, which is nice.

One welcome addition is new and tells the entire server whenever an admin spawns something. So if server admins are cheating for friends, you'll know.

So the server I've been focusing on is !Chaos Island!. If you want to join me, that's where I am.

They're wiping the server today, as Rust servers tend to do. However, their wipes do NOT wipe blueprints, which is kind of cool. I've been told the wipe will take place after the update...so apparently an update is coming to Rust today?

Anyway, wiping while keeping your blueprints means that while you lose your house, it gives you a chance to start fresh without losing the knowledge of how to build things.

If you look for the server and the name of it still says "Wiped 1/7", then assume the wipe hasn't happened yet. However, wipe or not I'll be on tonight as I've been inspired.

Tuesday night I made a trade with a guy named Beefy. Beefy is unemployed and was always on giving people shit. Not being a complete dick (except to one person), but having fun with the concept of the game.

Anyway, I have 50K in wood and he was looking for 40K, so we made a trade. The wood for two blueprints. One was walls, and the other was C4. Hooray! He also told me he could make me a rocket launcher BP as I can make rockets.

I should point out even though it's obvious, he didn't kill or cheat me. There's something to be said for that.

Anyway, he also showed me his base, and holy fuck. HOLY FUCK! Troy, Cake, TPR, and I probably have the most experience in Rust, and I'm here to tell you that the biggest base any of us have ever seen in game was dwarfed by this thing he built. It was insanity. He had commandeered a massive section of the map and built refinery fields, blocked off access to huge areas for resources, etc.

How big was his base? Well, he needed the wood for the final day gun fight and raids because people would be coming to his base and he needed to complete 100 more armored doors and code locks!

By the way, he's a solo player and this was three days work. Did I mention he's unemployed?

Back to the server, it's been pretty popular in the past, so hopefully it'll get attention again. It seemed to really pick up steam during the last week and there are currently over 30 sleepers on the map, so we'll see.

I did do something funny to another player. I noticed his base had a window with wooden bars on the ground floor. Mistake! So I went back one weekday evening with a bunch of hatchets and resources to build more. I chopped my way through, then through all the doors in his house and looted the shit out of everything good. I left behind all the stuff I really didn't need. I also looted him, but didn't kill him. Then while I was leaving I put new wooden bars on his window. That way, he'd have no idea how the raiders got in.

A note on Rust overall, one awesome tool that's out there now is a live map site where you can tell it what server you're on and it shows you where you are live once you link it with your Steam account. You can link up with friends and see their locations too.

For the record, if you punch in that !Chaos Island! server and take a look at that map I've had bases in two locations:
1. On the mountain just west of the nuke facility and just southwest of the satellite dish base. The problem with that base is it was too small. It was the biggest base I had seen until Beefy's, but it was still too small and vulnerable. (Keep physics in mind when base building and destroying...)
2. My second base was southwest of that location on a peninsula with a warehouse.

Beefy's base lay northwest of the water treatment plant, which is the northernmost star on the map.

If the server isn't wiped when I get home tonight, I plan to try and seal off the peninsula to see if it's possible to completely take it over (I believe so).

If it is wiped, I'm debating building down by the military tunnel. Maybe even taking one of the islands down there and walling the whole thing off...I'll keep you posted...

Another awesome note and one that it going to be worth trying is someone is starting a Rust server where you get one death. Once you die, you're banned.

I'll be on tonight on that !Chaos Island! server (unless it's down being wiped) either starting over with my new base or experimenting with some building techniques before it gets wiped.

Sounds cool. I don't have internet yet at the new apartment, or a ton of time in general, but I can log in and check it out this weekend sometime if I can fix the former problem.

My "crushing of men's skulls with hatchets" skills won't deteriorate if I only play a little bit.

The update is out.

Expect the server I play on to be wiped shortly. (It's still up at the moment.) This works out well as tomorrow morning I'm getting a crown put in, and the rest of the day I'll be off and playing Rust.

I'm dedicating the next month to experimenting with building. Anyone who jumps on and plays, I'll equip you with weapons and whatnot, just bring me resources.

I'd be willing to jump on and check it out. I didn't play much of it the first time you all started playing, so I don't really know or remember anything at all about the game.

I remember you getting drunk and passing out while accessing the only chest that had a gun in it. We had to kill you so we could get that pistol out.

Then we all died horribly for various reasons because we sucked.

Good times.

Oh yeah! I vaguely remember that too! I just remember you sending me into some zombie filled house to open a chest and getting slaughtered. That zombie just about made me shit my pants.

Hilarious story.

Oh shit, new map!

Not sure where I should build...

-Up north near the military tunnel?
-Southeast of the trainyard?
-Near the middle of the map for access to drops?
-Southwest near the airfield?

I'm leaning towards the island in the southwest between the airfield and that warehouse/lighthouse. That puts us close to the trainyard and radtown too.

Oh, and if you play, collect BP fragments. They are the most important resource.

Leisher your Rust posts need more pictures.

The coaxial in the newly refurbished apartment isn't spitting out Comcast internet. They have some crazy ass thing where they can hijack a nearby Comcast user's Xfinity box and shoot us a spare signal, but it's really, really slow and is unusable for doing anything.

Until the tech comes out Monday i'm basically in the dark ages - except for all the phones and the ipads and the working computers. But no internet.

We do have a digital antenna though so I can still watch the Suberb Owl

Just FYI, if you get on the !Chaos Island! Server, just die and you'll have the option of spawning in our base. I built sleeping bags for Troy, Stranger, and Gordo. Cake and I are already there.

Although if that server doesn't repopulate after the wipe, we might seek out a different server. It would be a shame as I can now build basically everything.

Stranger and I moved from the !Chaos Island! server last night as there was no activity and ended up on Nub Island. I'll tell those tales later, but right now it's brought up a different issue.

What type of server do we want?

Here's where I think we stand:
-A fair server not dominated by the admin and friends.
-A busy server, but how many people does that mean? 10? 20? More? The higher we go, the more we're fighting for resources and the less security we have, which has pros and cons.
-Wipes? Do we want a server that wipes often?
-BP Wipes? A server that let's you keep your BPs or not?
-A server with mods like the one that helps us use the map for location?

Place your votes here so I know. I'll be doing some hunting tonight for a more appropriate server.

Or we could try to invade Nub Island... The problem there is that I know they're cheating, so why bother? They were over 30 people last night and haven't been at 20 since the admin and his friends decided to start raiding everyone. Several people quit the server while Stranger and I were on. I was ready to leave it last night, but the one thing that really got my attention happened since I logged out in the new house I built in the most remote location ever. Someone came in and put up a huge sign that said "Friendlies must be destroied" (sic). "Friendlies" being the admin and his friends.

My vote, as much as I'd love to fight back on Nub Island is to find a server that was just wiped and start on equal footing with other people. 20-30 other folks would be a good range even if more come later.

Thoughts?

Update: I jumped on a server called The Rusty Rumble. 24 folks active when I jumped on, not counting me. I've seen a dozen or more kill messages, so that's good. I have a 2x1 house build near a large house I'm going to raid. I also build a foundation underwater nearby, stuck a box on top of it, and some items. If there's no decay on this server, theoretically, it should be a very well hidden spot for items...

We moved to [US EAST] | Beast of the East |

24 people on at 2 a.m. on a Saturday, and there was fighting going on while we were on. Plus, they just did a full wipe 3 days ago.

We're on the coastline in the SW part of the map below the Trainyard.

Noob Island has been abandonned. Too much cheating and all our houses were raided multiple times. Yes Stranger, even yours. Two different groups even left you a note on your wall and killed you.

The only bad part of the new server is I might have seen someone using a speed hack. He was zipping around WAY too fast and has a massive tower despite the wipe three days ago.

Still, seems like a place we can get a foothold and still get action when we decide we want it.

Cool, i'll check that out tonight. When you say we, do you mean you and Cake? cause he never got back on Friday night.

Yes Stranger, even yours. Two different groups even left you a note on your wall and killed you.

I figured it would happen. Hell it was the first house I ever built, I didn't even have a door on it. It prolly wasn't the best spot for a house right by the trainyard, but it sure did have one helluva view!! i'll miss that little home..

Leisher your Rust posts need more pictures.

I took one good screen shot of my dead body after I got gunned down by a "friendly" whilst chasing after a drop. My naked body was bent awkwardly over a pile of rocks ass up in the air with flies buzzing around my butt.

Kinda wish I took a screen shot of the view of the little house I built. It sat high on the hill with a pond down below and the trainyard as a backdrop. All the resources I could ever ask for all around, trees, rocks deer and pigs roaming about and oh yeah hemp, LOTS of hemp. You would have had to build a fortress to keep a plot of land safe there but it was fun while it lasted.

While I didn't like the thought of the "Friendlies" cheating, I sorta liked the idea of them being the bad guys and trying to fight against them. What are the chances that we find a server that doesn't have cheaters on it? You all would know that better than me with your experiences in the game but you did mention that it made a few others quit because it seems like it runs rampant on just about every server.
